Shane van Gisbergen cut into Scott McLaughlin’s big championship lead with a narrow Ipswich SuperSprint win.
Van Gisbergen got the better of McLaughlin in a game of duelling pit-stop strategies to score a narrow win in Sunday’s Ipswich SuperSprint and cut the Ford driver’s championship lead to only 131 points ahead of the big Sydney Supernight weekend.
The victory gave Kiwi Van Gisbergen a 300-point cushion over the rest of the chasing pack of Holdens behind — teammate Jamie Whincup, David Reynolds and Craig Lowndes.
Queensland has proved to be a fertile points scorer for van Gisbergen, who backed up his victory in Townsville with Sunday’s win at Queensland Raceway at Ipswich.
An exhausted van Gisbergen summed it up simply; “That was awesome’’.

Looking forward to Sydney SuperNight 300 – Eastern Creek Raceway – August 3 & 4 2018
Racing at Eastern Creek Raceway is always exciting and close, and this race will be extra special as a one-off night race under the lights.
The last occasion a night-time Supercars race was held in Australia was way back in 1997.
Supercars have ventured into the night since then in Abu Dhabi, but the Sydney SuperNight 300 will be the first time it’s been done on Australian soil since that evening more than 20 years ago.
This time around there will be no second chances – just one single race over 300 kilometres held on the night of Saturday August 4, although it was recently confirmed that a practice session on Friday night will be allowed for the teams to adjust to the unfamiliar conditions.
With McLaughlin firming as Championship favourite. odds for the established drivers have blown out and fantastic odds are available on the likeable Craig Lowndes, Whincup and Reynolds.
