Saturday Racing Tips - Eagle Farm 03/05/25

It is a dual Group 2 day at Eagle Farm on Saturday with both the Queensland Guineas and the Victory Stakes on the afternoon. We have a $19 roughie selection in the second of those, part of a hugely competitive-looking field for the 1200m contest. We also have our top two picks for the day running earlier on the card in handicaps. We are set to take on the betting sites once more this weekend so let’s get stuck into the Eagle Farm action.

BEST BET - #4 Floozie
Has been a solid handicapper for a while but looked to take her form to a new level on her first start for Tony Gollan. That was her debut at this track with Angela Jones in the saddle again as she was on that first start for the stable. She has been a consistent type throughout her career and can continue that with another smart effort. The trip and ground are perfect for her and it would be no surprise to see her take another step forward in this contest.

DANGER - #3 Hermanita
A very tough mare to keep out of the frame, she has finished in the first three in 14 of her 17 races so far in her career. They include a win over this track and distance two starts back in a similar contest on good ground. She has a perfect barrier in one for a mare who likes to be up on the speed in her races and the ground should be coming right for her with a couple of sunny days this week.

VALUE BET - #1 Heroic Miss
Has to carry a sizeable impost of 62kg but that is down to her level of form in stronger races than this one in the past. Her last two starts at this track have resulted in a win and a second. Both of those runs came on softer ground than she is liable to face here. She is fine on good ground though and her effort when second at Ipswich in a Bm85 four starts back in February gives her strong form claims of taking out this prize.

BEST BET - #10 Tavs
Is on a quick backup here after a win over this track and distance last Saturday. The ground was soft that day but he also had a win on his only other visit to Eagle Farm which came on a good surface. He was well found in the market on that most recent start and duly justified the money with an easy success. He came two and a quarter lengths clear on that occasion and a similar performance would make him the one that they all have to beat here.

DANGER - #11 Anemacore
Was a winner over the 1400m distance at this track back in January, stretched out further for each of his four subsequent starts. His stamina has looked to run out in the last two, both over 1800m+ at this track. This is the shortest distance that he has saluted over so connections will be hoping that there is enough pace on here. If that is the case then few of them are going to be running home quicker than this gelding.

VALUE BET - #5 Blakmax
Failed to beat a rival at this track last time out but he was held up. Generally, he is seen right on the speed which he was unable to do after exiting the barriers awkwardly. It makes sense then to put a line straight through that effort as he is clearly far better than that. Four runs back was the last time that he ran over this distance of 1400m. He was a close second to Substantial that day, a runner who could also get involved in this race. Beaten three-quarters of a length against that rival off level weights, he receives 3kg here so he should be able to reverse those places.

BEST BET - #14 Coleman
Starts out for Chris Waller here after leaving the stable of Matt Laurie. He kept smart company for his previous yard, finishing 6th in the Moir and Manikato and then 7th in the Coolmore in his spring prep. Kicks off in a Group 2 for his new trainer and has won two of his three career starts when he has been first-up which suggests that this should be a good time to catch him. Waller throws the kitchen sink at him in terms of aids with a lugging bit, cross-over nose band and a nose roll all added for the first time. If they help him, he is the one to beat.

DANGER - #5 Far Too Easy
Early in a prep tends to be the right time to catch this gelding. He has four wins and a third in seven first-up starts as he is here and then four wins in six starts second-up so he is one to keep in mind for next time as well. Wouldn’t often be seen pitched in quite this deep but he has plenty of quality, denying Front Page a third straight Kosciuszko back in October. He has been runner-up both times that he has been seen in action over this track and distance so it suits him well. Goes on any ground and Craig Williams who won on him in the Kosciuszko is on his back for just the third time in his career.

VALUE BET - #10 Cifrado
Always needs a bit of luck in running, something that he didn’t have when he was third in the Buffering over 1400m at this track back in December. He was the only one of the first four past the post who was not in those front positions from the start and given how long he had to wait for a run, that can be marked up significantly. He has had two starts so far this prep, runs that he has typically not done well in, just 1/12 in that situation so far in his career. He has two wins in five starts when third-up, and will enjoy this surface more than in those two starts. This should be run to suit his come-from-behind style.
