BBL Preview – Strikers & Scorchers to meet in Top-of-the-Table clash

Strikers vs Scorchers

In a great move for cricket in regional Australia, the Strikers have unveiled unique playing shirts designed by Aboriginal artists to be worn during the top-of-the-table clash against the Perth Scorchers in Alice Springs.

Strikers coach Jason Gillespie, Australia’s first Indigenous Test cricketer, the Strikers side and the WBBL side will wear the shirts for the special occasion.

“It’s a great initiative,” Gillespie said. “The shirts look brilliant; the artists have done a great job. We will be very proud to wear them in Alice Springs.”

The Scorchers Ashton Turner

The Scorchers must be absolute delighted with the form of Ashton Turner. Tall and big-hitting, Turner has been threatening now for awhile to play the kind of match-winning and blistering innings he did on Monday night against the Melbourne Renegades, scoring 70 off just 32 balls to lead Perth to a five-wicket win over Melbourne Renegades on Monday.

The 24-year-old, who made his international debut in Australia’s three-match T20 series against Sri Lanka last summer, has been BBL 07’s most powerful and in-form batsmen. In six games for the ladder-leading Scorchers, Turner has struck 196 runs at 49, however, the most pertinent stat is his strike-rate. Striking at 168.96, it’s the highest of any batsman with at least 30 runs to their name.

The Strikers Stellar Bowling Line-up

Looking to curtail the Scorchers batting line-up will be the much-vaunted attack of the Adelaide Strikers.

In veteran Aussie test quick, Peter Siddle is BBL 07’s most economical bowler.

Afghani import leg-spinner, Rashid Khan is spinning his wizard ‘s mix around opposition bats, as is Aussie ODI and T20 rep player, Adam Zampa.

Experienced quick Michael Neser and fellow up-coming fast bowler Billy Stanlake provide the pacey fireworks and finally, Ben Laughlin’s mix of slower balls, off-paced bouncers and cutters rounds out an attack capable of holding back the most potent of batting sides.

Saturday’s Best Bet

Ashton Turner has been spoken of a future Australian test captain by those in-the-know and is great value as Top Scorer with Sportsbet at $5.00.
