Alexander Zverev has threatened to knock the door for years, but he fell shy of the big titles regularly. Perhaps he could put the blame on the sheer dominance of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer - now he faces the small task of keeping Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner quiet. However, he looked in fantastic form in the second round which will give him plenty of confidence before facing Norrie and a crowd that will be against him!
Zverev batters Giron 6-2, 6-1, 6-4 to reach third round at Wimbledon

French Open 2024 runner up, comfortably beats Marcos Giron
Zverev sends a strong message to his close rivals to say that he is there to win, as he dispatches a star-struck Marcos Giron in straight sets to set up a match against former semi-finalist Cameron Norrie
News Insights
- Zverev wins 6-2,6-2,604 against Giron.
- Zverev could be the third German male to lift the famous Wimbledon trophy.
- Cameron Norrie will await the German in the third round.
- Hopes to better his runner-up performance at Roland Garros earlier this year.
The first set saw him grab an early break swiftly followed by another, while managing to stay strong on his serve. It was looking like a tough match for Marcos Giron who had beaten Henry Searle in four sets to book his spot in this matchup. Zverev quickly wrapped up the first set in 27 minutes. The second set was won in even less time - 26 minutes, winning 88% of points on his first serve which was being landed 67% of the time.
Zverev two sets up would have been looking to limit his time on court to gain optimal rest against a player that also won in straight sets. He managed to do so and wrapped up his second round victory three sets to none. Cameron Norrie will be high on confidence after defeating British No.1 Jack Draper.
We are sure that this third round match will be placed on either Centre Court or Court No.1, viewers will not want to miss it as the sheer contrast in styles should create a recipe for a fantastic match. Expect Norrie to cause Zverev trouble on the forehand wing with the flat, pushy backhand which also caused Jack Draper a problem as he was unable to attack off such a low ball.
