Finch says goodbye to the BBL with a win over Melbourne rivals
News Insights
- Finch announces retirement
- Stars now must win against Hobart
- 41,205 fans were in attendance for the derby
- Shaun Marsh star batter with 64 off 49
Melbourne Stars struggled on a tricky pitch for the batters, however a total of 137 was never completely dismissing them from the game. Spinners played a key role in this match with Akeal Hosein and Adam Zampa causing all sorts of trouble for the Stars batsmen. Hilton Cartwright was the top Stars scorer with just 38 runs, this alone can tell you plenty about the pitch!
A tricky powerplay for the Renegades saw Stars slowly creeping their way into the match. However, Shaun Marsh was the key wicket for Stars. A wicket they never managed to take, as he scored an impressive 64 off 49 in testing conditions. Jonathan Wells assisted Shaun Marsh in getting the Renegades over the line, unfortunately it is too late for Renegades to have any sort of play-off push at the end of the season.
Akeal Hosein is looking to be a fantastic signing for Renegades, they will only wish that they could have got him earlier in the season. He caused a lot of trouble for Stars’ batsmen with a variation between the drifting arm ball and the orthodox left arm off spin delivery - which clean bowled Marcus Stoinis! His figures of 2-18 (4) were key to the Renegades victory.
Aaron Finch has made the decision to put the bat away for good, perhaps he will be picking the commentary mic up instead. A mini-ceremony before the match for the Renegades and Australia legend took place, and a standing ovation as he departed for the pavilion, one last time.
