Take a look at our previews for each and every game below.

Port Adelaide Power vs Melbourne Demons

Indigenous Round kicks off with a big Friday night game between a team trying to work themselves into the Premiership conversation, and one sitting comfortably in it. The Power are adding to their Premiership credentials by the week, having taken their record to 7-2 on the back of their 70-point win over the Kangaroos last weekend. After destroying perhaps the worst team in the league, however, they’ll have to take things up a gear when they welcome perhaps the best to their home stadium. The Demons also had an easy kill last week against the Hawks, knocking them off by 54 points to take their own win/loss record to 7-2. Their percentage of 143.6% is pretty comfortably the best in the league, and is indicative of how good they’ve been at times this year. They haven’t been able to bring that every single week, but when they’re on they’re a better team than Port, and under Friday night lights they can get the job done this weekend.

North Melbourne Kangaroos vs Sydney Swans

The Swans badly need a win, so a matchup against the Kangaroos couldn’t come at a better time for them. The Roos, after their exciting back-to-back wins to enter life under Alastair Clarkson, have regressed to the largely uncompetitive form they displayed throughout last season, and have now dropped seven in a row to drop into the bottom three alongside the Eagles and the Hawks, with whom they’ll likely remain for the rest of the season. The Swans, meanwhile, have lost four in a row themselves, putting in jeopardy their finals hopes the year after they made it to the Grand Final. This is still a really talented young team, but they have hit a flat spot and need to find their way out of it sooner rather than later. Last week’s loss to the Dockers in Sydney was super disappointing given how Fremantle have played for most of this year, and would have set the alarm bells ringing for the Swans. A win over North Melbourne certainly won’t alleviate those concerns, but it will at least get them back on the winners’ list.

Western Bulldogs vs Adelaide Crows

Speaking of teams trying to get themselves into Premiership contention, both the Bulldogs and the Crows are starting to make some noise in that regard. They’re each sitting just inside the eight and certainly still have plenty of work to do to truly establish themselves in that conversation, but they’ve both been really impressive at times this year and are each coming off good wins. The Bulldogs staved off the Blues to win their fourth game in succession last week and take their record to 6-3, while over in Adelaide the Crows dominated the vastly improved Saints, beating them by 52 points and cutting through their resolute defence like no other team has managed this season. This looms as a really intriguing game between two legitimately good sides. On what is likely to be a cold and windy Mars Stadium, the Crows can come away from Ballarat with an upset win.

Fremantle Dockers vs Geelong Cats

Last year, this would have been a top of the table clash between two of the best teams in the league, but while the Cats have well and truly maintained that rage, the Dockers have fallen off a cliff. At least, they had. Two weeks ago, they won just their third game of the season with an easy kill against the Hawks in Perth, but that appeared to finally give them the confidence for which they’ve been so desperately searching in the early stages of the year. They backed that up with their best game of the season against the Swans last week, coming away from Sydney with a 17-point win, and suddenly they are right back in the finals picture. If they can beat the Cats this week, the optimism surrounding their ability to get back close to where they were last year will only grow, but they’ll have a tough time doing that. After losing their first three games of the season the Cats have been brilliant, though last week they lost their first game in six weeks against the Tigers. They’ll be keen to bounce back from that loss, and though they’ll have a tougher time against this improving Freo team than they might have a few weeks ago, they can still get the job done.

Brisbane Lions vs Gold Coast Suns

The Lions just keep getting it done. They won their fifth game in a row last weekend, and though it was a game they were expected to win, they did it with consummate ease against the Bombers. It certainly wasn’t the type of Lions game we’ve come to expect, and the free-flowing, easy-scoring nature for which they are renowned was notably absent, but they conceded just six goals and came away with a comfortable 42-point win. This week, they get a brilliant chance to make it six wins in a row and take their record to 8-2. The Suns have certainly managed to alleviate the pressure which was so firmly on their proverbial shoulders early in the season, and have now won three games in a row after beating up the hapless Eagles last week. They’re an outside finals contender for sure, but that’s about it. Against the might of the Lions at the Gabba, it’s hard to see the Suns earning their fifth game of the year.

Essendon Bombers vs Richmond Tigers

Dreamtime at the G is every year one of the most anticipated home and away games of the year, and this one is set to be no different, with both these teams finding themselves in intriguing positions as we near the halfway point of the season. The Bombers have been much improved under new coach Brad Scott, but an incredibly difficult month has seen them lose four games in succession. Against the Magpies, to a lesser extent the Cats, and then the Power, they were very competitive, but losing so consistently invariably dents confidence and that showed in a disappointing effort against the Lions last weekend. The Tigers over the past fortnight have been a great example of the opposite effect. They looked completely devoid of confidence over the first couple of months of the year, losing five games in a row after their first two games, but they got back on the winners’ list with an easy win against the Eagles. With a win finally behind them, they put in their best game of the season by a long way against the Cats last night, looking far more like the Richmond which has won three flags since 2017. Their chaotic ball movement was back, Dustin Martin and Shai Bolton are simultaneously playing great footy for one of the first times in their careers, and the Tigers look right back in the conversation for, at the very least, the finals. They can notch up another win against the Bombers this weekend.

Hawthorn Hawks vs West Coast Eagles

Most weeks, the Hawks, Eagles and Roos provide easy wins to three lucky teams, but that won’t be the case this weekend with the Hawks and the Eagles set to face off in a game that won’t inspire a great deal of excitement in neutral supporters. These two teams have won just a solitary game each and find themselves sitting in the bottom two spots on the AFL ladder, with the Eagles’ percentage sitting at 60.5% and the Hawks’ at 60%. There’s no sugar-coating the fact that these are two very poor teams who won’t be winning very many games this year, so this will provide a very rare opportunity for one of them to get four points on the board. Don’t expect a particularly high quality game, but in a scrappy affair the Hawks can get the chocolates down in Tasmania.

Carlton Blues vs Collingwood Magpies

Sunday’s action is headlined by perhaps the biggest rivalry in the league, with the Blues and the Magpies set to square off at the MCG in front of what will no doubt be a massive crowd. The fortunes of this two historic clubs, however, are trending in completely opposite directions. The Blues are copping all sorts of heat after losing a fourth game in five weeks last weekend, their only win in that stretch coming against the Eagles. There’s no doubting the stars they’re able to get on the floor, but even with the likes of Charlie Curnow, Harry McKay, Patrick Cripps, Sam Walsh and Jacob Weitering out there, they’re consistently unable to play at a particularly high level. Contrast that with the Magpies. They’ve got a good team, but under Craig McRae they are maximising that talent like no one else in the AFL. A dominant 120-55 win over the Giants last week took them to 8-1, and they’ve separated themselves as the Premiership favourite – albeit only slightly – as a result. Hopefully, the Blues can finally get the best out of themselves on this huge stage and create a good game, but even if they do it’s hard to see the Magpies losing.

GWS Giants vs St. Kilda Saints

Round 10 concludes with an intriguing clash between the Giants and the Saints, both of whom will be pretty keen to get back on the winners’ list. The Giants were no match for the Magpies last week, who handed them their third loss in four weeks, but they’ve shown some good signs at times, most notably in their solitary win in that month period in which they beat the Swans by a point. The Saints, meanwhile, have looked like the most improved side in the competition under coach Ross Lyon for the first couple of months of this season, but with two disappointing losses in the last three weeks they’re beginning to come back to the pack. The latest of those was a shellacking at the hands of the Crows, who were able to boot 19 goals on a team which has proved more difficult than virtually any other to score against so far this season. Ross the Boss will be imploring them to recapture that defensive identity this week after losing it last week, and they can eke out a hard-fought win on the road on Sunday afternoon.
