Saturday Racing Tips Randwick 09/12/23

Our racing tips for Saturday will come from Royal Randwick, where we have a huge priced roughie in the big race of the day. She is massively overpriced with the horse racing bookmakers if she can return to the form of her first run of this preparation as we look to back up our roughie winner from last Saturday. We also have a good-sized best bet on the afternoon and a similarly priced next best.

Randwick Race 2 - BM72 Handicap (1400m)

BEST BET - #3 Miraval Rose
He has four wins from his seven career starts, looking like a progressive gelding. He enjoys the ground when it is on the wet side, which it seems like being on Saturday, so conditions are in his favour. That was only a highway contest, so he takes a step up in class now, but with so few miles on the clock, there should be much better still to come from him, and he looks just the type to be capable of keeping stronger company.

THE DANGER - #1 Step Aside
A smart winner at Rosehill first time up this prep, that was his second win from three first up starts so it looks a good time to catch him. He has finished second when second time up in both preparations so far and this is the spot that we are expecting him to fill again on Saturday. He has some smart form to his credit, arguably the best in this field, but he has not managed to find his way into the top three on either start here, which has to be a little bit of a concern given that he has finished first or second in all of his other seven runs.

VALUE BET - #7 Leandra
She's a big price here, but there has been enough from her two runs this prep to think she can outrun her price. Two wins from three starts on soft ground, she was third last time out at Kembla Grange on the only time she has encountered a heavy surface. She moves out of fillies and mares company here to take on the boys, which makes her task more difficult, but to balance that, she steps from BM78 company into a BM70, which should allow her to make her mark.

Randwick Race 7 - The Ingham Group 2 (1600m)

BEST BET - #2 Detonator Jack
The drop back to this trip of 1600m and the fitting of blinkers for the first time produced a huge performance from him when winning at Kembla Grange last time on a heavy surface. Conditions will not be as tough as that here, but it was still a career-best performance, and he was well in front of Osipenko. That rival has a 3kg swing for a 2.5l beating, so he is certainly entitled to make more of a race of it at the weights, but Jack has a more likeable attitude and should be able to beat that rival again.

THE DANGER - #6 Osipenko
He has to be one of the most frustrating horses in training. He has more than enough ability to win a race like this, but he just seems to lack the killer instinct to get the job done. As mentioned, the swing in the weights from his clash with Detonator Jack at Kembla Grange last time out should see him at least finish much closer. He is not an easy type to win with, failing to score in any of his last ten starts, so it looks likely that he will find at least one too good again.

VALUE BET - #13 Hinged
Things have not gone her way this prep since her first start when she was an excellent fourth in the Group 1 Winx Stakes. She was only beaten a length on that occasion in a race where the first three home were Fangirl, Princess Grace and Zaaki. A repeat of that form where she was a $12.00 chance would see her a fraction of the odds that she is currently available at. Things have not gone right since, with a number of niggles and a cardiac arrhythmia, so there have to be concerns about her well-being. That said, this is her trip, she's handily drawn, and the return to softer ground will be a big plus for her.

Randwick Race 9 - BM78 Handicap (1600m)

BEST BET - #2 Zoe's Promise
Solid placed efforts in her two starts so far this preparation, both in this BM78 grade. She improved for the move up from 1300m to 1400m and will again appreciate this longer trip, out to 1600m for this race. She is 0/9 on good ground, which is what both runs came on, stepping out on a softer surface now. Her wins have come on heavy and soft ground, so this will be much more to her liking. She has won third time up in the past, and this could be the right time to catch her again this prep.

THE DANGER - #3 Peace Officer
He won a 1400m BM72 at this track in October, taking a long time to pick up when asked for his effort, as if trying this new distance might allow him to improve slightly. He can be excused from his recent run over 1500m at Rosehill as he was out the back in a race where the pace held up, finding himself out of his ground. He did some good work late on over 1400m at Canberra last time he ran and should be up to making the new distance work for him.

VALUE BET - #5 Aristonous
He has not run since August but has shaped well in a couple of trials in November, so he should be ready to roll first up. In his last prep on a Soft 5 surface, he won over this track and distance, so these conditions look ideal for him to show his best form. The second that day arrived off the back of a win and has gone from a rating of 63 to 71 since being beaten by this gelding. The third was only run down late in the Four Pillars when he finished fourth, suggesting it is strong form for the level.

Multi Tips For Randwick

It's a bit more of a risky multitip this week, given that the middle leg has a little bit to prove at present, but that adds a little more juice to the price to accompany a pair of shorter prices in the afternoon. As always, we hope the cream will rise to the top at a track that generally rides fairly for most.
