Despite a roughie winning the first, in general, it was a day for those at the head of the market at Rosehill. A bad day for the horse racing bookmakers with the favourites winning on a day of some outstanding quality on the track
Autumn Glow and Private Harry stay unbeaten

Autumn Glow and Private Harry stay unbeaten
The quality of racing at Rosehill on Saturday was the best of the autumn so far with five Group 1 races
News Insights
- Autumn Glow is now 4/4
- Private Harry made a Group 1 breakthrough and is now 5/5
- Via Sistina adds to her Group 1 haul
- Broadsiding wins the Rosehill Guineas
It is always positive when the quality of racing on paper is transferred to the turf. On a card with two hugely promising, unbeaten runners heading to the barriers as well as some stars of the sport, it lived up to the hype.
The progression of Autumn Glory continues
Listed company looked well below Autumn Glory’s level of ability, even after a long break. She had not raced since September after making her first three career starts in a five-week span from the middle of August until September 21.
The second and third of those were both Group quality races, a Group 3 and then a Group 2. Surely, she is going to be moving back into that sort of level next time up with Group 1 races looking on the agenda for her.
Private Harry remains unbeaten
A step up into Group 1 company was no problem at all for Private Harry as he went and won his fifth straight start. It was a massive jump in class to the races that he had run in in the past but the field that he had beaten at Sunshine Coast in January suggested that he was going to be able to find the level workable.
Having Lady Of Camelot behind him that day was more than enough to think that he could win at this level. The three-year-old colt could yet have a little bit more to come and it would be no surprise to see him land another Group 1 or two before the season is out.
He was the first Group 1 winner for both his trainer Nathan Doyle as well as jockey Ash Morgan. By Harry Angel, who is making a great name for himself as a sire, his offspring will attract even more attention at upcoming sales after a further Group 1 winner.
Group 1 win number eight for Via Sistina
One of the top performers in the world, she added to her win in the Verry Elleegant Stakes last time out in the Ranvet on Saturday afternoon. That eighth success at the top level took her career earnings to a touch under 10 million for the Yulong mare.
Given that she is now a seven-year-old, who knows how long there is left for her on the track with a huge value as a broodmare? Yulong has made some huge investments in their breeding program in recent years and she is going to be one of the cornerstones on which they build her future.
Broadsiding back to winning ways
It was a run of four Group 1 defeats that Broadsiding brought with him into the Rosehill Guineas on Saturday. The step back up to 2000m looked a potentially good move for him and when he took over in front, he looked like he was going to win by any margin but that did not prove to be the case.
In the end, he was clinging on in front to score by a narrow margin as Aeliana rocketed home down the middle of the track to almost spoil the party for the Godolphin runner. She looks like there is a Group 1 to be won with her when she is put in against her own sex over a distance similar to this.
Summary
There are some outstanding Saturdays coming up. The quality of racing during the course of the autumn is really starting to ramp up and the winners this weekend are going to be in the mix on the betting sites for further big races coming up.
