Men’s single US Open Semi-finals and final Predictions

US Open 2019 Men's Tournament
US Open 2019 Men’s tournament

The US Open crowd have been stunned as first Novak Djokovic and then Roger Federer left the building. Now it is up to one of Matteo Berrettini, Daniil Medvedev, and Grigor Dimitrov to halt overwhelming favourite Rafael Nadal.

Our Betting Tips

There have been plenty of pleasantries between Nadal and Berrettini in the run up to their semi-final clash but expect Nadal to leave all that at the door to the dressing room as he spies a fourth US Open title. With Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer out, Nadal will never have a better chance to win a 19th major title and so far, he has not let that opportunity slip. Having dropped just one set in the entire tournament so far (to Marin Cilic), Nadal is a man on form and 23-year-old Berrenttini playing in his first grand slam semi-final is in for something of a master class.

Medvedev has youth on his side and an overwhelming talent whilst Dimitrov has experience and a sudden return to form in his. That means we are on for a thriller in this semi-final. Nadal may get all the headlines, but this is the last four clash you will not want to miss and that is why popular sports books make this tight contest in the sports betting markets. Both impressed in their quarter-final clash with Dimitrov knocking out Roger Federer in five sets and Medvedev defeating Stan Wawrinka, but the Russian was carrying a knock after the first set against Wawrinka and he may have a few injury doubts.

Best Odds

Daniil Medvedev
Grigor Dimitrov
Matteo Berrettini

Matteo Berrettini v Rafael Nadal

This will be the first time the pair have ever met in competitive action although Italian Matteo Berrettini has hailed his opponent as the ‘greatest fighter in tennis’ in the lead up to the match. However, do not expect Spaniard to go lightly on Berrettini despite the compliments as Nadal has only dropped one set all tournament so far.

Daniil Medvedev v Grigor Dimitrov

This game is set up to be a classic as the pair share a 1-1 head to head record. However, it was the 23-year-old Medvedev who claimed victory last time out winning (on a hard surface) 6-4, 6-2 all the way back in 2017. Neither player has ever made it to a grand slam final but that will all change at the end of this contest.

  • If Rafael Nadal wins the tournament, it will be his fourth US Open title and second Grand Slam win of the year (French Open)
  • Matteo Berrettini is only the fourth ever Italian male to reach the semi-final of a Grand Slam tournament in the Open era.
  • Rafael Nadal is the only man of the four semi-finalists to have ever gone beyond the semi-final in a Grand Slam.
  • This will be world number five Daniil Medvedev’s 66th ATP match this year.

Our prediction

Rafael Nadal to win the US Open

How can you not back him? Understandably the overwhelming favourite with online betting sites following the absence of Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer, his price to beat Matteo Berrettini literally says it all and highlights the gulf in class. The only way Nadal will not add a fourth US Open title to his burgeoning trophy cabinet is by injury, but that is unlikely as Nadal is undoubtedly back to his best.
