Dimuth Karunaratne has more problems on his hands than he would have imagined. Not only is his side in bad form but they have seen their last two games against Pakistan and Bangladesh being washed away by rain. This is the last thing that the team management would have liked ahead of their game against title holders Australia. In their last game against Afghanistan it was their bowlers who pulled off a good win after the batsmen had let the side down. The problem with the side has been its inconsistency. Karunaratne would want his players to rise up to the challenge to perform well against Australia.
Australian skipper Aaron Finch would be a relieved man. There was much criticism about his side after the loss against India but they put all doubts to rest with their win against Pakistan. There are still issues with the batting as the side couldn’t complete its quota of 50 overs in the last game losing the last 8 wickets in a span of 14 overs but they did well with the bat. Given that Sri Lankan side has been going through a poor run in the recent months Finch would be confident about his side’s prospects. Having lost against India he wouldn’t want his men to be complacent in the game.
World Champions Australia is back to doing what they love doing the most i.e. winning games. In the next game of the Cricket World Cup the side would take on Sri Lanka. The Asian side hasn’t yet showed much promise in the tournament where they have been defeated comprehensively once and won the other game after much struggle. The game is their last hope to stay alive in the tournament aiming for a berth in the semi-finals. Australia would start confidentially in the next game and it will be interesting to see how Sri Lankan team matches up in the game.
