England are surprisingly the favourites to reach the final of FIFA World Cup 2018, and if they manage to do that it will be their first World Cup final since they went on to win it back in 1966. English fans have been very optimistic about their chances ever since they were put in the ‘favourable’half of the draw, with comparatively easier teams to negotiate on their way to the final. They have started the chant “it’s coming home” on social media, to indicate that the sport of football is about to come back to its origin. England started the World Cup well, with a narrow win over Tunisia followed by a 6-1 pounding of Panama, which secured their qualification. Knowing that topping the group could have led them to a difficult draw in the knockout stages, England fielded a much changed side in their 3rd game against Belgium, and consequently lost 1-0. This led to a round of 16 clash against Colombia, and the Three Lions prevailed against the Colombians in a dramatic penalty shootout after the game had ended 1-1. England then faced Sweden in the quarterfinals and comfortably dispatched them 2-0, to set up an intense semifinal clash with Croatia. While Croatia are in imperious form, England have looked well settled under Gareth Southgate and with the inform Harry Kane ensuring there’s no dearth of goals up front, they are the favourites to reach the final.
