Odds of England to Make it to the World Cup Final

England are surprisingly the favourites to reach the final of FIFA World Cup 2018, and if they manage to do that it will be their first World Cup final since they went on to win it back in 1966. English fans have been very optimistic about their chances ever since they were put in the ‘favourable’half of the draw, with comparatively easier teams to negotiate on their way to the final. They have started the chant “it’s coming home” on social media, to indicate that the sport of football is about to come back to its origin. England started the World Cup well, with a narrow win over Tunisia followed by a 6-1 pounding of Panama, which secured their qualification. Knowing that topping the group could have led them to a difficult draw in the knockout stages, England fielded a much changed side in their 3rd game against Belgium, and consequently lost 1-0. This led to a round of 16 clash against Colombia, and the Three Lions prevailed against the Colombians in a dramatic penalty shootout after the game had ended 1-1. England then faced Sweden in the quarterfinals and comfortably dispatched them 2-0, to set up an intense semifinal clash with Croatia. While Croatia are in imperious form, England have looked well settled under Gareth Southgate and with the inform Harry Kane ensuring there’s no dearth of goals up front, they are the favourites to reach the final.

Odds of France to Make it to the World Cup Final

France have been dominant as expected, being the only pre-tournament favourites to reach the semifinal stage. A squad with a perfect mix of youth and experience, as well as power and speed, has brushed aside every team it has faced so far, barring Denmark who managed a drab goalless draw, but could not stop Les Bleus from topping their group. The Euro 2016 Runners Up started their campaign unconvincingly, with a narrow and fortunate win over comparative minnows Australia. They followed that up with another scrappy and narrow win over Peru, before a 0-0 draw with Denmark raised questions about their chances in the knockout stage. However, the squad clicked brilliantly in their round of 16 clash against Argentina, in one of the games of the tournament, as Lionel Messi’s men were knocked out 4-3 in an intense match. They followed that huge win with another impressive win against an in-form Uruguayan side, which had conceded only 1 goal in their first 4 matches, before succumbing to a 2-0 defeat to France, proving that the Europeans are a cut above the other teams in the tournament. France face Belgium, the only side with a 100% record at the tournament, with 5 wins out of 5, and full of confidence after knocking out tournament favourites Brazil. However, we expect Les Bleus to have a better winning mentality and the experience of their senior players should carry them over to the final against a relatively inexperienced Belgian side.

Odds of Belgium to Make it to the World Cup Final

Belgium have probably played the best football out of any team at the World Cup. They have scored the highest number of goals and their lightening fast counter attacks are breathtaking to watch. They opened their campaign with a convincing 3-0 victory over minnows Panama, before thrashing Tunisia 5-2 in their second game, ensuring qualification to the next round. Belgium then made 8 changes to their starting lineup against England, but still managed to win 1-0 with Januzaj scoring a brilliant goal. This set up a round of 16 clash against Japan, who shocked the Europeans by scoring 2 quick goals after half time to take a 2-0 lead. However, Belgium proved their mettle as they became the first side since West Germany in 1970 to come back from 2-0 down and win a game in the knockout stages of a World Cup. They followed this epic comeback with their biggest ever victory as a spirited performance saw them knock out Brazil, to set up a mouth watering clash with France in the semifinal. Despite their imperious form, Belgium are the underdogs in this fixture, primarily because their players are comparatively inexperienced, which was also the reason why they got knocked out by Argentina at the 2014 World Cup, despite winning all 4 matches before that. Hence, they are only 3rd favourites to reach the final.

Odds of Croatia to Make it to the World Cup Final

Croatia are the most surprising semifinalists out of the last 4 remaining teams. While they have always had a strong midfield and decent team overall, not even their most hardcore fans would have imagined that not only will they thrash Argentina and top a tricky group, but will also go all the way to the semifinals of this tournament. Croatia had a perfect group stage, with just 1 goal conceded and 3 wins in 3 matches. While they comfortably beat Nigeria 2-0 in their opening game, they needed a last minute winner from Perisic to win against Iceland. However, the performance which made the world stand up and notice was the unbelievable 3-0 thrashing of the mighty Argentinians, as Lionel Messi’s men simply couldn’t understand what hit them. However, despite an impressive group stage, Croatia have only managed to scrape through the round of 16 and quarter final stages against comparatively lower ranked opposition. They had to endure two draining penalty shootouts, an indication of their players slowly burning out and fatigue affecting their overall game. Therefore, we believe they are the 4th favourites to reach the final, as it will be a huge task overcoming an inform England side.
