Who will win Ford Trophy 2020-21?

Auckland

Auckland Aces

The defending champions had a great run last season and dominated right through the league stages. They have arguably the strongest batting line-up in this tournament with players like Colin Munro, Martin Guptill, and Ben Horne in the side. Their bowling is also strong with Lockie Ferguson in the side. They would be aiming for their third title in four seasons this year.

Canterbury

Canterbury

The most successful team in this tournament with 14 title wins, Canterbury did well in the last season finishing second after the league stages. They lost to Otago in the Elimination Final and shall aim for their 15th title win and the first after 2016-17. They have good strength in the squad and players like Cole Mcconchie, Todd Astle and Andrew Ellis will be looking to lift the trophy once again.

Central Districts

Central-Stags

It has been a poor run of form for the Central Districts since their title win in the 2015-16 season. They had a disastrous campaign last season where they finished last on the points table with only two wins in their 10 games. The side would be aiming for a better start to this edition of the tournament and get over the horrors of the last season. They have good players in the squad including the likes of George Worker, Tom Bruce, and Ajaz Patel.

Northern Knights

Northern Disticts

They struck form too late in the season and this prevented the side from making its way into the elimination round. They won five out of ten games last year and shall be looking to end their decade long win for a title which they had last won in 2009-10. The side possesses good talent with the likes of Scott Kuggeleijn, Daryl Mitchell, Tim Seifert, and Ish Sodhi in the squad.

Otago

Otago

It has thirteen years since Otago won the last title in 2007-08 and a generation of players have since then not had their hands on the trophy. It was a sorry end to their run last season where they lost by 2 wickets in the final against Auckland and they will be looking to seal it this season. The side is packed with talent and has players like Hamish Rutherford, Neil Broom, Michael Rippon, and Nick Kelly in the squad.

Wellington

Wellington Firebirds

They are one of the powerhouses of New Zealand cricket but had a poor season last year finishing 5th on the points table. This was a fall from grace for the side which had last won the 2018-19 edition. The side is packed with talent and has big games such as Michael Bracewell, James Neesham, Jeetan Patel, and Logan van Beek in the squad.
