Top Goalscorer Predictions

Harry Kane

England’s number 9, and captain on the night, Harry Kane proved once again that he is one of the most prolific goalscorers England has seen in the last 2 decades. Kane proved that he is more than capable of taking his goal scoring form for Tottenham to the international stage as well, with 2 poacher goals against Tunisia, including a stoppage time winner. With his place in the starting 11 never a doubt, we expect Kane to be right up there in the goalscoring charts towards the end of the World Cup.

Romelu Lukaku

The Manchester United forward endured a quiet first half in Belgium’s opening game against Panama. However, he came to life in the second half with two well taken goals which were brilliantly assisted by the world class duo of Kevin De Bruyne and
Eden Hazard. With these players playing around him, there is no surprise that Lukaku is one of the favourites to win the golden boot in this tournament, as Belgium are looking strong enough to reach the latter stages of the tournament.

Antoine Griezmann

The mercurial French forward was the Golden Boot winner at the Euro 2016 Championships with 6 goals to his name, despite France ending up as runners up. A nifty attacker, who is nimble-footed as well as a lethal finisher from anywhere around the box, Griezmann is also the heartbeat of this French side, being the primary creator for anything productive in attack. He has scored 3 vital goals, and provided one assist, at a rate of 1 goal every 130 minutes. 2 of those 3 goals were penalties against Australia and Argentina, and the 3rd was a fumble by Uruguay’s goalkeeper Muslera. While he still trails the leader Harry Kane by 3 goals, Griezmann still has an outside chance of emerging as the top scorer with potentially 2 big games remaining. As of now he is the 3rd favourite to win the Golden boot, after the obvious leaders Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku.

Kylian Mbappe

PSG’s new teenage sensation Kylian Mbappe finally had the opportunity to justify his enormous price tag at the biggest stage of them all, and he grabbed it with both hands. The 19 year old French striker has 3 goals at a brilliant rate of 118 minutes per goal, including two brilliantly taken goals against the might Argentinians, which enabled France to win that classic match 4-3. It was the match that proved that Mbappe had arrived on the big stage. He also scored another winning goal against Peru, though fellow striker Giroud would claim he stole his goal. His astonishing pace is a nightmare for any defender in the world, and would be targeting Belgium’s slow central defenders in his next match. He dribbles past them with ease and combined with his lethal finishing, he also has an outside chance of emerging as the top scorer at this World Cup, with the same odds as his compatriot Antoine Griezmann.

Luka Modric

Real Madrid’s world class central midfielder Luka Modric, coming off another exceptional domestic season where he won his 3rd consecutive Champions League Title, has been the heartbeat of a hugely impressive Croatian side at this tournament. The Croats silenced their doubters by not only topping a tricky group also containing Argentina, but by actually thrashing the South Americans 3-0, where Modric got the man of the match award couple with an absolute screamer of a goal from outside the penalty area. The diminutive midfield maestro also scored another goal via a penalty, and has been central to all of Croatia’s attacks in every game. If Croatia are to overcome England and go on to lift the trophy, we expect Modric to be amongst the goals and contest the leaders for the Golden boot.
