Watford look to keep their 100% record intact as they host Mourinho’s Manchester United at Vicarage Road.

There are not many football fans that would have chosen Watford to be the unbeaten side as these two teams face up to each other four games into the new season. The Hornets have been very impressive so far and will be thinking that home advantage and United’s disarray could give them the edge.

Much of the so-called crisis that has engulfed Manchester United has concerned itself with off-field events but it is also on the pitch where United have failed to click so far. A relatively easy start to the season has been made hard work of and visiting Watford – in the form they are showing – may not turn that around.

Losing Richarlison to Everton in the summer – albeit for a reputed £40 million – seemed like a hammer blow to Watford’s chances of survival this season. But the appointment of Javi Gracia has worked wonders and his team are firing on all cylinders now.

There are many questions surrounding the United squad and Jose Mourinho’s attitude and demeanour has done nothing to convince outsiders that all is well at Old Trafford. A relatively easy run of fixtures may be able to help things now though. This match could be tough however and Watford could win by a narrow margin. 2-1 to the home side.

Watford to win at >4.16

Even with United’s current form the bookies expect them to turn things around but Watford are unbeaten and have looked very good in all their matches so far this season. For a home match there seems to be good value in a Watford win.

Roberto Pereyra has really come alive this season after two seasons where his goal tally was less than impressive. The Argentine has already scored three times this campaign and will be fancied to repeat the trick at home to United.

Head to Head

Watford has only ever beaten Manchester United on five occasions in 30 attempts and was beaten home and away last season – shipping four goals at Vicarage Road.

  • The form of Greek international José Holebas has typified Watford’s excellent start to the season. He tops the assists table – linking up wonderfully with his forward players – and also has two goals of his own.
  • Romelu Lukaku is averaging 3.25 shots per game this season – up from 2.18 last time out – and that has been rewarded in his three goals so far this campaign.
  • Watford has not finished higher than 13th since they returned to the Premier League in 2015. But their early form will have older fans dreaming of the possibility of European football for the first time since 1983.
  • Manchester United has already scored double the amount of penalties than they did last season, with Paul Pogba successful against both Leicester and Brighton. He also missed one against Burnley.
