St. Mary’s Stadium, Southampton
Life is tough at the bottom as both Southampton and Newcastle are finding out but at least the Saints have a win under their belts while the Magpies’ miserable start needs to come to a swift end.
These two have played a combined 18 Premier League matches this season but remarkably recorded just one win.
That was by Southampton away at Crystal Palace at the beginning of September but perhaps more of a concern is the distinct lack of goals.
Both sides have scored just six goals each this term and that is what has put both these competitors in trouble early in the campaign.
However, despite the Magpies torrid start, their last two performances have at least shown some hope for the future while Southampton will be confident they have enough quality to get out of trouble.
Do not expect a goals fest in this one even if history suggests otherwise as history is just that.
A slow tepid battle is set to take place on the South coast as the Saints make it back to back 0-0 draws against opponents they will feel should be beating.
- Under 2.5 goals
That is a complete no brainer even if it is priced at odds on.
Just six goals apiece have been scored by the pair at an average of only 0.66 goals per game.
- The draw at half time
If you fancy reducing your risk of hanging on until full time, then backing the stalemate at half time is the best way to go for a quick pay out.
Only once n the last five games have Newcastle managed to net in the first half whilst Southampton have not managed a first half Premier League strike since the middle of September.

Head to Head
Southampton has had the better of it over Newcastle in the last five years winning four of the last eight meetings, drawing three and losing just one.
However, that one defeat came in the sides last meeting back in March when the Magpies strolled to an easy 3-0 win at St James Park.
Overall, the pair share arguably the most even of all head to head records with both having claimed 37 wins over each other with 22 draws.
Could one of these sides be about to take the lead in the head to head records as well as give themselves a major Premier League boost.
- Newcastle United became only the fourth side in Premier League history to have lost their opening five home league games in the 1-0 loss to Brighton last time out.
- Only Huddersfield (4) and Crystal Palace (5) has scored less than both these two this season.
- Both sides have scored exactly six goals each this season and conceded fourteen each.
- Newcastle (along with Huddersfield) are the only two sides in the Premier League yet to win a game this season.
- Southampton has made one block more than Newcastle this season (36 to 35).
