Group G is wide open with just three points separating CSKA at the top and Plzen at the bottom, but all that could change in the Spanish capital on Tuesday night.

If ever there is a time to take advantage of a sides plight it is now, and that is exactly what FC Viktoria Plzeň manager Pavel Vrba will have in mind as he takes his charges to the iconic Santiago Bernabeu.

By their own lofty standards Real Madrid are having something of a troubled time as three defeats in all competitions so far can testify.

That shock defeat to CSKA Moscow has left Real manager Julen Lopetegui under scrutiny especially as his predecessor guided Los Blancos to three straight Champions League titles.

Anything other than a convincing victory could cost former Spain coach Lopetegui in deep water but win they should.

Plzen have lost all of their three games in Spain whilst Real have never lost to a Czech side on home soil making a routine and a pressure ridden 2-0 home win should end the four- game streak without a win for Real.

Betting Tips

  • Real Madrid to keep a clean sheet

Despite the home sides woes, they more than have the capabilities to turn it around in a favourable home Champions League tie.

Real may be winless in four but they have still only conceded twice in their last three while Plzen suffered a 5-0 thumping on their last Champions League outing.

  • The draw at half time

At that price the draw at half time is certainly worth a look.

Real have not scored in their last four games in all competitions and the pressure is on meaning the side may well take the first half to settle into the game before coming alive in the second 45.

Head to Head

This game marks yet another Champions League first as neither Real Madrid or Plzen has ever met each other before.

This game is also the first time Real have played a Czech side since 2002 when they beat Sparta Prague 3-0.

That was also Real’s fourth win in five home matches against Czech opponents.

Plzen has lost all three of their trips away to Spain making this something of a home banker.

  • Plzen have only won one of their last 16 European away fixtures.
  • Real Madrid are the defending champions and are in their 49th European campaign (a record).
  • Real Madrid have won 35 of their last 43 Champions League home games.
  • Plzen has lost all three of their previous away trips to Spain and are yet to score a goal against Spanish opposition on the road.
  • Both sides have lost a Champions League game this season, Real to CSKA Moscow and Plzen to Roma both in matchday two.
