There’s no Cristiano Ronaldo as Juventus host Young Boys but the Serie A giants have plenty of options to replace the suspended superstar.

Juventus overcame the questionable red card shown to Cristiano Ronaldo against Valencia to beat the Spanish side 2-0 at the Mestalla, confirming their status as one of the Champions League’s most dangerous and obdurate teams – with or without the Portuguese colossus.

Ronaldo will be back available for Juve’s third group stage game, against his former club Manchester United at Old Trafford later in October, and the Italians will fully expect to go to England with six points from a possible six. Indeed, Group H looks like coming down to a battle between United and Juve for the right to finish first, so that will be one of the crunch fixtures.

Max Allegri won’t want to look past Young Boys, though. The Swiss side were outclassed against United but shocks can and do happen, usually when the favoured team takes their eye off the ball. Whoever replaces Ronaldo will have something to prove to Allegri and it is vital his teammates take a similar approach – otherwise the Serie A superpowers will be playing catch up to their Premier League rivals, and La Liga representatives Valencia will be back in the mix too.

Young Boys were beaten 3-0 by United in the first round of group games and Juventus would expect something similar when they host Gerardo Seoane and his charges. A 4-0 home win isn’t out of the question.

Betting Tips

  • Juventus to win by three or more goals

There’s plenty of attacking power in the Juve squad to account for Ronaldo’s suspension – Paulo Dybala, Mario Mandzukic and Douglas Costa among them. Plus there’s goals from elsewhere in the team too – midfielders Blaise Matuidi, Sami Khedira and Miralem Pjanic have all netted so far this season.

  • Juventus to win and over 3.5 goals

United, with their creative, attacking players stymied by Jose Mourinho’s dull style of play, still put three goals past Young Boys. Allegri’s side aren’t always the great entertainers but they have much more freedom than Paul Pogba, Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku, and should make full use of it with a commanding victory.
