Germany vs Netherlands: Predictions, Betting Tips and Odds

Arena AufSchalke, Gelsenkirchen
Germany round off a massively disappointing Nations League campaign by welcoming the Netherlands to Gelsenkirchen.
Germany have been very poor throughout their inaugural Nations League campaign and will have been nervously checking the score of the Netherlands v France game three days before this one to see if they had any chance of avoiding relegation to League B. A morale-boosting victory is needed at Schalke’s ground – but it will still be a case of too little too late.
After a woeful few years where the Netherlands have failed to even qualify for the last two major tournaments, Ronald Koeman seems to have got the side back on track and have looked much better in the last few games. This was always going to be a tough group but the fact that they go into the final match ahead of Germany should be taken as a good sign for the future.
Germany have lost six games in 2018 and will look back on the summer’s World Cup with embarrassment. The solitary highlight of the tournament was a late winner against Sweden but Die Mannschaft looked underprepared – or too overly confident – against Mexico and ultimately went out at the first stage for the first time since 1938. This has not been a good year for Joachim Low’s men.
The Netherlands are not back to their old ways but 2018 has seen a mixed set of results – which is a definite improvement on the last couple of years. The 3-0 victory over Germany in the Nations League last month is probably the highlight but it may be asking too much of Ronald Koeman’s side to repeat that trick in this match. Expect Germany to grab a consolation victory here, 2-1.
- Germany to win
The Netherlands have started to improve recently but Germany will want to finish off the year with a victory.
- Both teams to score
Germany have only kept one clean sheet all year and the Netherlands are too inconsistent to keep their hosts at bay so both teams should find the net.

Head to Head
Germany have the better historical record in this fixture but the Netherlands comprehensively won the last match – the Nations League victory in October.
- Germany are without a win in their last four competitive matches – the last one was the 2-1 victory over Sweden at the World Cup.
- The Netherlands have only lost to France and England in 2018, while recording victories over both Portugal and Germany.
- Germany may have had a Nations League campaign to forget but they have at least attempted to keep playing the same way – their 87% pass completion rate is one of the best in the competition.
- The Netherlands won the 1988 European Championships but they have never won the World Cup – even though they have made the final on three occasions.
