France look to impose themselves on this Nations League group by seeing off Joachim Löw’s Germany side at the Stade de France.

Predictions

France follow up their Nations League opening victory over the Netherlands with another home fixture against neighbours Germany. Olivier Giroud scored the winner in their first match but star of the World Cup Kylian Mbappe grabbed the first to make it eight goals in the calendar year.

Two Nations League matches in four days for Germany will go a long way in determining whether Joachim Löw’s men make it to the play offs. But with such a disappointing World Cup – and other off field problems – the performance against France may be just as important as the result.

France managed a 0-0 draw when these teams met in the Nations League opener in September. Alphonse Areola played his first ever game in goal for the national side in Munich that night and pulled off a string of fine second half saves to keep his team in the match.

Germany follow this game up with a friendly against Russia in November before finishing their inaugural Nations League group stage against the Netherlands in Gelsenkirchen. They will be desperate for points here but France should win this one, with a score of 2-1 to Les Bleus looking promising. France have so much attacking firepower, Germany might struggle to keep them out again.

Betting Tips

  • France to win the group

France look unstoppable at the moment and even the traditional powerhouses such as Germany seem unable to stop their brand of football. Whatever the result in this match Didier Deschamp’s side should win the group.

  • Kylian Mbappe to score at anytime

The teenager was the star of the World Cup and he has continued that form for club and country ever since then. The Paris Saint-Germain striker just can’t stop scoring at the moment and could well grab another against Germany.

Statistics

Head to Head

Germany have not managed to beat France since the quarter final stage of the 2014 World Cup, having drawn two and lost two of the last four.

Stats

  • France have only lost one match in 2018 – a defeat to Colombia in a friendly in March. Since then they have won ten and drawn three
  • Germany have won just three of nine matches this year, only getting the better of Saudi Arabia, Sweden and Peru before their match against the Netherlands.
  • France’s domination of international football may continue for a while yet – outside the goalkeepers there are only three players over 30 in their current squad.
  • In this global football world it is noticeable that only five players in Joachim Löw’s current squad play outside of Germany – Bayern Munich alone have seven representatives.
