A classic relegation battle as two sides at the wrong end of the table attempt to get some much-needed points to help them stay up.

Predictions

Chris Hughton would have hoped that his side was further away from the bottom of the table by this stage of the season but the Seagulls are now involved in a relegation battle to avoid the drop. A victory here would be ideal – taking three points away from one of their rivals – and there is sure to be some passionate displays from players and fans alike at the Amex.

Cardiff were the bookmakers’ favourites to go down at the start of the season but if they manage to get all three points from the visit to Brighton then there might be a few more weeks of nail biting yet. Goals have been a problem for the Welsh side this season, so if they do win it is likely to be a tight affair.

Brighton have not always played the most attractive football this season – preferring a more pragmatic approach to their Premier League fixtures. But that tactic has largely worked for the last two years and it is unlikely that the side will change at this late stage of the season.

Just four more games remain for Cardiff after this one so this is no time to pick up draws – Neil Warnock’s men need all three points from their trip to the south coast. Whether they are able to manage that is another matter however. This may not be pretty but Brighton could win this narrowly – 1-0.

Betting Tips

Total goals under 1.5

These two sides have not been known for scoring goals this season so fans should not expect a deluge in this one.

Brighton to Win

There won’t be many times that the sports betting sites have Brighton odds on to win a game this season but the Seagulls will be desperate for the three points to see them half way to safety.

Head to Head

The head to head tally between these two is absolutely level with 23 wins apiece. Cardiff won at home earlier in the season though – thanks to a 90th minute winner from Souleymane Bamba.

Stats

  • Brighton have the same number of victories this season that they finished with at the end of the last campaign.
  • Cardiff have had real trouble finding the net this season – only bottom of the table Huddersfield Town have score fewer goals.
  • When Brighton stayed up last year it meant that the Seagulls would play successive seasons of top flight football for the first time since 1983.
  • Last time Cardiff were in the Premier League they finished bottom with just seven victories, a mark they have already surpassed.
