Our Prediction AFG vs IND, Super Four:

Afghanistan will win this game

While there was every reason to believe India would top the Group in their journey to the Super Four there are few who would have predicted Afghanistan to be the table toppers in their group with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh being the other two teams. The encounter between two sides that have come up with best performances over the last week would be an eagerly awaited one. It would be a clash between India’s strong batting and Afghan army of spinners. India would surely not take Afghanistan lightly after the kind of show the side has put up so far in the tournament. It promises to be an exciting encounter at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium where fans would pack the stands.

What can be said about this team as they prepare themselves for the game against the strongest ODI side in Asia. There was lot of excitement to see them on the big stage against the best sides in Asia and they have not only lived up to the expectations but exceeded them in every game they have played so far. Far from being minnows they have played like a champion side in Asia Cup. Even in the game that they lost against Pakistan the side took the game to the last over of the match and looked favourites in most phases of the game. Asghar Afghan is showing his inspirational leadership skills and leading a team of motivated individuals.

The batting has been a textbook case so for the team in the tournament so far. They keep wickets in the hand and launch their attack in the final overs. Mohammad Shahzad is in form and so are Ihsanullah Janat and Rahmat Shah. While they may not have scored big they definitely have made important contributions. Hashmatullah Shahidi along with skipper Asghar Afghan forms a strong middle order and Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan are great finishers. Switching over to bowling it would again be Rashid Khan leading the bowling attack for the side. Mujeeb Ur Rahman is bowing great spells with the new ball while Nabi is threatening batsmen with his variety. If Aftab Alam and Gulbadin Naib keep things tight the Indians would have to sweat it out in Dubai’s heat.

After the initial hiccup against Hong Kong in the first game the Indian side has shown why they came into the tournament as favourites to win it. Rohit Sharma the stand-in skipper in place of Virak Kohli has led from the front and the side has had wonderful run against Pakistan and Bangladesh in their last games. Sharma would know that the Afghan side doesn’t win matches by fluke anymore and have become a tough side to beat especially in conditions that suit spinners. While Hardik Pandya’s injury would have come as an upset Ravindra Jadeja made the best possible comeback to the side in his place.

The team relies on its batting strength and the Top 3 have just showed what they are capable of. Shikhar Dhawan is stroking the ball well and scoring runs while Rohit Sharma and Ambati Rayudu have been in great form so far and this would pose a huge threat to the opposition. MS Dhoni’s return to form strengthens the batting with Dinesh Karthik and Kedar Jadhav having both shown their abilities with the bat in this tournament so far. The bowling attack has been super impressive with both Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah in good shape. Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav have lived up to their reputation of being a destructive spin combination but it is Kedar Jadhav who has impressed the most this tournament bowling well within his abilities.

Afghanistan is a great side but it would be tough for them to match up to India who start as favourites to win this contest
