Many of this season’s recurring themes were there to be seen in Italy, Leclerc once again making a mockery of Sebastian Vettel’s complaints about Ferrari’s reliability. The young driver has now won back-to-back races and is aiming for a third upset on the trot at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. Hamilton will be out to ensure that does not happen and that normal service is resumed.

Our Betting Tips

Traditionally one of the slower races, the Singapore Grand Prix finds other way to test drivers. The track is exceptionally bumpy and conditions are usually humid, with added poor visibility for good measure. Drivers tend to end up very close to the walls around the bends, so the likes of Max Verstappen will need to steer themselves towards a more conservative approach.

Tyre choice could be more important than ever, but there’s clearly no consensus on which way to go. Red Bull and Racing Point are opting for softs, while Mercedes are going for just eight sets of softs. Mercedes and Ferrari will have the same number of medium tyres.

It’s inevitable that Leclerc’s odds have got shorter and shorter as the season has gone on, something the bookies have started to pick up on.

Leclerc to win

Perhaps a little complacency has set in over the course of the past few weeks, which would certainly explain some of the Mercedes’ driver’s more lax mistakes. If anything, Hamilton’s hit and miss form does mean there is slightly more value in backing the Brit than there would have been a month ago.

Hamilton to win

While Verstappen’s win in Germany now seems a fairly distant memory, having come at the end of July, the 21-year-old finished as runner-up to Hamilton in Singapore last year and impressed in qualifying the year before that.

Verstappen to win

Head to Head

Lewis Hamilton has won the last two Singapore Grand Prixs.

Hamilton has only won one of his last four races, though he still enjoys a very healthy lead at the top of the Championship standings.

Vettel and Hamilton have won the Singapore Grand Prix the same number of times, with four victories apiece.

  • Kevin Magnussen broke the record for the fastest lap time at Marina Bay while driving for Haas last year. (1:41.905).
  • Since F1 returned to Singapore in 2008, five different teams have won there, with Mercedes the most successful.
  • Hamilton, Bottas, and Leclerc have shared the podium – though not necessarily in that order – on five separate occasions this season.

Current standings:

  1. Lewis Hamilton – 284 points
  2. Valtteri Bottas – 221 points
  3. Max Verstappen – 185 points
  4. Charles Leclerc – 182 points
  5. Sebastian Vettel – 169 points

Our prediction for Grand Prix Singapore

Hamilton to win 8/5

As healthy as his lead may look, Toto Wolff will have left Hamilton under no illusions about the need to get back on track at Marina Bay. Aided by his excellent record in Singapore, the world champion will be confident of doing just that. There have been some scintillating moments when he and Leclerc have gone toe-to-toe in the final stretches in recent weeks, however, and Hamilton will need to be at his best to take another leap towards the title.
