Betting Tips – Week 1 of the 2019-20 NFL season

NFL Regular Season Week 1
NFL, Week 1

GB Packers (+3) vs CHI Bears (-3) - September 5th

Tip – Aaron Rodgers will undoubtedly elevate his game this season after a down 2018 by his standards. Unfortunately, week 1 may not be the best time to do so. Chicago boasted the number one defense just a year ago, and is always a stingy out at Soldier Field. Chicago is undefeated ATS in their last seven contests vs. fellow NFC North opponents.

ATL Falcons (+4) vs MIN Vikings (-4) - September 8th

Tip – Minnesota was the 4th ranked defense a year ago, yet finished middle of the pack against the run. Atlanta’s run game will be spearheaded by a now healthy Devonta Freeman looking to bounce back after an injury-riddled 2018. The receiving trio of Julio Jones, Calvin Ridley, and Mohamed Sanu will be a tough matchup for the overrated Vikings secondary. Over the last five matchups between these two teams, the underdog has gone undefeated ATS.

LA Rams (-3) vs CAR Panthers (+3) - September 8th

Tip – The Panthers went 6-2 to kick off 2018, prior to a Cam Newton injury. Ron Rivera has stated that he expects to see Newton on the field week 1. If that’s the case, I’m taking Carolina with the points. Newton has a plethora of speedy weapons at his disposal. The Rams, on the other hand, are juggling question marks at their skill positions with Todd Gurley’s injury concerns, and Cooper Kupp returning from a torn ACL.

TEN Titans (+5.5) vs CLE Browns (-5.5) - September 8th

Tip – The Browns were anointed the Cinderella of the NFL offseason. They’ll likely be a very good team, but the Titans are no hunch themselves. Tennessee was built in the trenches and will put pressure on the questionable Browns o-line. Expect Marcus Mariota to look for his new weapon Adam Humphries early and often on Sunday. Tennessee is 5-1 ATS in their last six games in September.

NY Giants (+7) vs DAL Cowboys (-7) - September 8th

Tip – Seven points is too much to give to a Cowboys team who is likely without Ezekiel Elliott lining up in the backfield. The Giants have quietly accumulated a young talented defense, especially in the secondary, and will force Dak Prescott to beat them through the air. Look for the Giants to chew up the clock with Saquon Barkley, and attack the Dallas safeties with matchup nightmare Evan Engram. Giants are 7-0 ATS in their last seven road contests.

PIT Steelers (+6) vs NE Patriots (-6) - September 8th Items

Tip – The Steelers have won just two games ATS in their last eight week 1 games. New England comes in with arguably the most talented group of skill players at their disposal in the Tom Brady era. Josh Gordon and company will wreak havoc on a poor and beat up Pittsburgh secondary. Look for Bill Belichick to cook up a defensive scheme to lock down JuJu Smith-Schuster, and challenge the group of unproven Pittsburgh wideouts to beat him.

HOU Texans (+7) vs NO Saints (-7) - September 9th

Tip – Seven points may seem like a lot to give to a Texans team with Super Bowl aspirations. However, Houston may be counting their eggs before they hatch. Houston recently acquired Laremy Tunsil, yet they are still, for the most part, miserable up front. Their RB1, Lamar Miller, tore up his knee in the preseason, and they just shipped off all-pro defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. Over their last four head-to-head matchups, the favorite as well as the home team has gone undefeated.
