Northern Ireland vs Netherlands: Betting Tips, Odds & Predictions

Northern Ireland vs Netherlands Euro 2020
Northern Ireland vs Netherlands, Euro 2020 League, Windsor Park

Northern Ireland must leave everything they’ve got at Windsor Park this weekend, when a convincing and confident Dutch side comes to visit.

Our Betting Tips

Michael O’Neill’s men must be focused on the task in hand this weekend, when they must go against the odds and overcome a confident Netherlands in Northern Ireland. After two losses to the giants in the group, the home tie against Holland is very important for the Irish as they might still be in with a chance to qualify for Euro 2020 next summer. But Holland haven won their four last matches – including the 4-2 win over Germany away from home. Both teams will go for it and try to claim all the points on Saturday.

Ronald Koeman’s away side are beaming of late and haven’t lost since the UEFA Nations League final, when Portugal picked up another trophy. Holland are unbeaten in the Euro 2020 qualifier since they lost 3-2 to Germany in March 2019 and will be out to confirm their place in the finals next year. It won’t be an easy task at Windsor Park though, as the 2-0 loss to Germany in September was the first time in seven matches the home side left the pitch without scoring in front of their own fans.

We might have a classic on our hands, as Northern Ireland would have to really fight to get a look at goal and the match could be decided by a last-minute effort. Against Belarus, when Northern Ireland grabbed a narrow 2-1 win, Josh Magennis scored the winner in the 87th minute. Away from home, at Borisov Arena, Paddy McNair scored the winning goal in the 86th minute when they beat Belarus 1-0 away from home. Another late match-winning goal might be needed from the home side this weekend.

Head to Head

Northern Ireland haven’t won against Netherlands since the 2-1 win on March 17, 1965 and will have to beat all odds when Holland come to Windsor Park this Saturday. The reverse fixture between the two ended with a 3-1 win to the Oranje, thanks to a brace from Memphis Depay and a goal by Luuk de Jong.

  • Holland are unbeaten in their last five meetings with Northern Ireland.
  • The Netherlands will qualify for the finals with only one point in Belfast.
  • Memphis Depay has scored six times in five starts for Holland in the Euro 2020 qualifiers – including two against Northern Ireland.
  • Hull City forward Josh Magennis has scored three goals for Northern Ireland in the Euro 2020 qualifiers, despite only starting one game.

Our Prediction for Northern Ireland vs Netherlands

Northern Ireland will of course fancy their chances at home to Holland, but the away side have got both the history and the form on their side. They are only one point away from a place in the Euro 2020 finals and will be going all in to secure a place with one match to go in Group C.
