Michigan State Spartans vs. Duke Blue Devils – CBB March Madness Elite Eight Preview

NCAA March Madness

NCAA March Madness

Sunday 3/31 5:05 PM (ET),
Capital One Arena (Washington, DC)

The Elite Eight falls into place just as it should, with the number one seeded Duke Blue Devils set to face off with the number two seeded Michigan St. Spartans for the right to advance to the Final Four.

You could say there is no team left in the tournament more talented than Duke. You could also say there is no team that has been luckier to make it this far in the tournament. Both statements would be true. Duke has been a major disappointment amongst betting sites, not once covering a spread during the tournament. To further scare betters away, Duke may once again be without forward Cam Redish. Redish missed the Sweet 16 game, and will be a game-time decision come late Sunday afternoon. Thankfully for Duke, they have enough talent to pick up the slack if Redish is a no go. Specifically, future 1st overall pick Zion Williamson, who has averaged 26.7 ppg and 6.7 rebounds during March Madness.

Michigan State comes in on the polar opposite end of Duke in terms of betting success. The Spartans are 13-1 SU and 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games. Michigan State is one of the best-coached teams in college basketball under Coach Tom Izzo. However, it seems that Duke is coach Izzo’s lone kryptonite. Izzo is just 1-11 SU against the Blue Devils and Coach K.

Many may be questioning whether Duke even belongs in the Elite Eight after their recent performances. Yet, the fact that they’ve made it to this point, and in the fashion that they did, should actually leave Duke fans more confident than ever. We have yet to see the best Duke has to offer during this tournament. After two drama-filled contests, it almost seems that destiny has decided we will all be watching Zion play for a NCAA-Championship before he jumps ship to the NBA.

Score prediction: Duke wins 73-72

Betting Tips

Duke has been abysmal covering the spread for the majority of the season. Michigan State comes in losing just four games ATS in their last 14 contests. The Spartans are also 8-1 in neutral site games this season.

If you’ve been betting on Duke, chances are that they hit the UNDER, something they’ve done 25 times this season. Michigan State has gone UNDER in four of their last five contests, with the score totals averaging out to less than 131 points.
