Man City vs Aston Villa: Betting Tips, Odds & Predictions

Manchester City vs Aston Villa
Man City vs Aston Villa, Premier League, City of Manchester Stadium

The match is over.
Score: 3-0.

Aston Villa have looked very impressive on their return to the Premier League – but the trip to the Etihad to take on the champions is the biggest test yet.

Our Betting Tips

Ederson is enjoying another good season at City and could well finish with another clean sheet to his credit. Villa have goals in them and City’s defence has been hit by injury, but Ederson remains a formidable presence.

The bookmakers predict a thrashing here but Aston Villa have defended well so far this season – and although they may well end up losing, it should not be by too many.

This is still a very convincing score line for Manchester City but nowhere near what many of the bookies think will happen.

Head to Head

These two have not faced each other since the 2015/16 season when City scored eight goals in three games (including an FA Cup tie).

  • Sergio Aguero played no part in the win at Crystal Palace – but he is still the joint top goal scorer in the Premier League with eight.
  • Villa are starting to get the hang of the Premier League again. In the last two games Dean Smith’s side have gained six points and scored seven goals.
  • Manchester City lost 3-2 at Norwich earlier in the season but Aston Villa were able to thrash the Canaries 5-1 at Carrow Road.
  • This game begins a very difficult run of fixtures for Villa – Liverpool are up next and there are trips to Manchester United and Chelsea in the next month.

Our Prediction for Man City vs Aston Villa

Manchester City to win

The way Aston Villa has started playing suggests that the odds for them to go straight back down again were far too short. This will be a real test for Dean Smith’s side however and Manchester City should pick up three more points to challenge Liverpool at the top of the table.
