Italy vs Greece, Euro 2020 League, Stadio Olimpico

The match is over.
Score: 2-0.

Table toppers Italy welcome Greece to Rome for the seventh match in Group J of Euro 2020 qualifying, with 13 points separating the sides.

Our Betting Tips

Italy have been on a good run of form since Roberto Mancini was named as new Coach in May of last year, winning their last seven games in a row. The Azzurri have scored 18 times in their six matches of Euro 2020 qualifying so far while they have conceded just three.

Greece have been disappointing in their qualification campaign winning just once, a 2-0 victory over Liechtenstein on match day one. The Greeks would end up drawing 1-1 at home against Liechtenstein in what was another poor result in their recent qualification runs.

Italy. know a win here and other results going in their favour would see them automatically qualifying for next summer’s tournament, which would be a great outcome after they failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Italy are playing some nice football under Coach Mancini and their possession-based style could potentially pay off against the struggling Greeks who have conceded 12 times in their last six matches in all competitions.

Head to Head

These sides last met in June in Athens and the Azzurri ran out 3-0 winners, the Italians have the better of the historical head to head by winning six of the last 10 meetings between the teams. The Greeks have won just once in that period, while there have been three draws.

  • Italy have won each of their last seven games in all competitions and are unbeaten in their last 10 all together since losing 1-0 away to Portugal in the UEFA Nations League in September 2018.
  • Greece are winless in each of their last six matches in all competitions, going back to a 2-0 win over Liechtenstein in March.
  • Italy are unbeaten in their last 23 home matches in European Championship qualification going back to 1999 when they lost 3-2 to Denmark which is a run of 19 wins and four draws.
  • Greece have only won one of their last eight home games in European Championship qualification, which was a 4-3 victory over Hungary in 2015.

Our Prediction for Italy vs Greece

The match to end in a win for Italy.

Italy are sitting pretty at the top of Group J with six win out of six and a victory here could see them clinch automatic qualification if other results go their way. Coach Roberto Mancini will have to do without the services of Giorgio Chiellini who is out with a ligament injury, while Inter midfielder Stefano Sensi withdrew from the squad after sustaining a knock in the match with Juventus on the weekend.

Greece have nothing to play for really except pride as they are currently seven points behind second placed Finland. Napoli defender Kostas Manolas was surprisingly omitted from the squad alongside other experienced players as Kostas Mitroglou, Andreas Samaris, and Vasilis Torosidis.
