Founded in 2009, FanDuel now offers players two ways to bet, with their fantasy sports games and a sportsbook recently added following the Supreme Court ruling giving states the right to legalize and regulate online sports books within their jurisdiction.
Millions of U.S. sports fans log-on each week to play in FanDuel DFS contests that align with some of the world’s most popular sports and betting markets. FanDuel offers DFS contests for almost every sport from Football, Soccer, Golf, Baseball, Hockey, Mixed Martial Arts, NASCAR, College Sports and Basketball.
For the time being, the FanDuel sportsbook is only available for live bets made within the state lines of New Jersey (although players can check out the betting lines from anywhere in the world).
Note – If you are physically located in Alabama, Arizona, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Louisiana, Montana, Nevada or Washington, you are prohibited from entering paid contests on FanDuel. Click Here to find the sports betting laws in your state
FanDuel Sign Up Process
If you do not have a FanDuel Sportsbook account, start by clicking the “Join Now” button in the upper righthand corner of the Sportsbook homepage. (For those who already have a FanDuel DFS account, it is the same login, but separate passwords will be required and have the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number).
When joining the DFS site first, the sign-up procedure begins in the center of the page.
Be at the ready with your social security number and information, date of birth and mailing address. As a major requirement of their New Jersey sports betting license, FanDuel must verify the identity of each sports bettor on their sites.
Before finalizing the account creation process, FanDuel asks every new account holder in the state of New Jersey to confirm the following information:
- Provided registration information is true and accurate
- The account holder is not a casino key employee, or casino employee that is banned from betting in any casino or simulcasting facility in the state of New Jersey.
- The sports bettor is not a prohibited sports pool participant.
- That the sports bettor is at least 21 years of age, and;
- The account holder understands no other person can access the account.
After you complete your registration, you will be requested to download the GeoComply plugin. The plugin is a compulsory requirement to place a sports bet with FanDuel in New Jersey. FanDuel players are required to geo-locate inside New Jersey state lines before making a sports bet.
FanDuel Fantasy Sports Training Guides
If you are just getting back into the swing of things with your Daily Fantasy Sports and Sports Betting after an extended break, you’re completely new to either or both pastimes, or you’re simply looking to get on edge over your fellow players, FanDuel has sports training ‘camps’ (or put more accurately, online guides) to assist you.
Have the processes and game rules explained to you to assist you in putting your DFS team together. FanDuel training camps or ‘sports training guides’ are available for the following sports;
- College Basketball
- College Football
- Major League Baseball
Ways to Play DFS
First up, you’ll need to choose a DFS contest (NHL, MLB, NBA, NFL, NASCAR, WNBA, PGA Golf, MMA and college basketball and football are all on offer).
Choose a sport you know well or in which you hold more than perhaps only a passing interest.
Playing DFS is very different to traditional sports betting (simply betting on teams to win or lose).
In a DFS contest, you are supplied with a salary cap which is used to ‘buy’ players for your virtual team. Every player in your chosen league is priced according to their perceived virtual market value based on seasonal and career statistics.
For example, if you would like to draft the best 3 pointer shooter in the NBA (Steph Curry, for arguments sake) you will need to spend a high percentage of your salary cap on that single star Warriors hot shot.
Once you have drafted and ‘paid’ for your virtual team, take a seat, watch the games unfold and your team’s points are calculated for you. Your team’s real-life counterparts amass stats (Home runs, rushing yards, touchdowns, goals, assists, rebounds, strikeouts, yards gained, receptions, etc.) in the real world and correspondingly, your fantasy league team accumulates points online. The team which ends up accumulating the most points, wins the league whether it be weekly, regular season or a stand-alone playoff ‘league’.
Prize money is drawn from the money earnt from each of the millions of player’s entry fees of just few dollars for each competition.
Unbelievably, daily, weekly or season-long DFS competition winners can sometimes receive as much as $1 million per competition, per major league.
Within that scenario, there are also different style of games to plays as outlined below;
- Head to Head – Play against a single opponent for winner take all stakes. Be sure to watch out for how your potential opponents are rating (Usually *Experienced, or *Highly Experienced)
- Beat the score – (Highly recommended for new FanDuel Users) – are DFS contests where the prize pool is split evenly across all winners.
- 50/50s – Players finishing in the top half of all players in a DFS contest win prizes.
- Multipliers – Offers DFS contestants the opportunity to double their money, or keep going to play for more.
- Tournaments – As the name implies, are DFS contests with set high paying prize pools and all winnings are guaranteed.
- Beginners Only – (Highly Recommended for new FanDuel Users) – No experienced DFS players are allowed to enter these DFS competitions and you will compete against fellow FanDuel beginners only.
- Satellites and Qualifiers – Win one DFS contest to gain entry into a more lucrative DFS
- 3-100 players – Compete in a DFS contest with fewer players. Multiple payout structures are usually a feature of these type of DFS games.
- Friends Mode – Another game highly recommended for new FanDuel Users, where you can play in private league with friends for a few games, or if you prefer, even up to an entire season in your chosen sport.
