Jason Holder would know the importance of a good start to the tournament. His team has had mixed bag of form in the recent series that they played in Ireland where they suffered from the problem of inconsistency. With some of the big players back in the squad they have a team that can beat any opponent during the course of the tournament. Holder would want his side to take one step at a time and given the kind of firepower they have in their batting the side would be looking to make the right start to the big event.

Chris Gayle and Shai Hope at the top make a formidable opening pair for the side with the latter being in good form. Evin Lewis and Darren Bravo are the perfect batsmen at No. 3 and 4 and they can mix caution and aggression to set up the perfect platform for the likes of Andre Russell, Holder and Ashley Nurse to do the hitting towards the end. The bowling line-up also looks formidable for the side with Kemar Roach, Sheldon Cottrell and Holder sharing the new ball. Russell, Nurse and Fabian Allen add variety to the attack going into this game.

Sarfaraz Ahmed would feel happy about his team’s prospects going into this game. They have acclimatized well in the last few weeks playing in England. Though the results may not have gone their way in these games they have done well as a batting unit. The skipper would know that the bowling attack will have to improve upon its performance given the kind of strength West Indies has in its batting line-up. What the skipper would be most hoping for is to see a good team effort as most of their recent performances have been about individual brilliance.

The batting like-up looks strong for the Pakistanis with both their openers Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman being in food form with the bat. The middle order also has quality players in the ever dependable Babar Azam at No. 3 and Haris Sohail and Sarfaraz Ahmed and Asif Ali in the squad. The bowlers seem to be going through a rough ride. The team would depend on Junaid Khan and Shaheen Afridi to pick wickets with the new ball. Hasan Ali, Imad Wasim and Faheem Ashraf will need to do well in the middle overs for the side to win.

Our Prediction for West Indies vs Pakistan

Pakistan will win the game

It is the first game of the World Cup for West Indies and Pakistan and both the sides would be looking to make the perfect start to the tournament. West Indies on their part have a tougher challenge at hand getting the team combination right with many players joining the squad for the mega event. On the other hand Pakistanis would like to use their familiarity with the conditions well in this game thanks to their recent tour of the country. It is expected to be a good clash between the West Indian batting and the Pakistani bowling attack.

It is a close call as far as predicting a winner for this game is concerned but Pakistanis seem to have better balance in their squad which shall make them favourites.
