Uruguay face Japan on Friday for both team’s second group game of this year’s Copa America tournament, which is being played in Brazil.

Predictions

Uruguay beat 10-man Ecuador 4-0 in their opening game in this year’s Copa America tournament, Nicolas Lodeiro started the rout in the sixth minute, Edison Cavani doubled the lead, before Luis Suarez made it three at the end of the first half. An Arturo Mina own goal put the icing on the four-nil cake in the second half, and should have made the bookies take notice.

Japan kick off their second appearance in the tournament on Monday night against holders Chile and warmed up for the competition by first drawing 0-0 with Trinidad &Tobago, then beating El Salvador 2-0. The Asian side first played in the 1999 Copa America in Paraguay, losing to Peru 3-2, then 4-0 to the hosts, before drawing 1-1 with Bolivia.

Uruguay went out during the group stage of the last edition of the Copa America. Finishing behind Mexico, and Venezuela, but ahead of Jamaica. The Celeste lost out at the quarter-final stage of the 2018 World Cup in Russia, losing 2-0 to eventual winners France.

Japan lost the final of the AFC Asian Cup 3-1 to Qatar in Abu Dhabi in January of this year. They topped a group that featured Uzbekistan, Oman, and Turkmenistan. They beat Saudi Arabia 1-0 in the first knock out round, then took care of Vietnam by a similar scoreline in the quarter-finals, before beating Iran 3-0 in the semis. A 2-1 win for Uruguay is well worth a shout.
