Tranmere vs Tottenham: Predictions, Betting Tips & Odds
Saturday 5 January 2019, 1:15 am
Tranmere welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Prenton Park hoping that Mauricio Pochettino’s men have their minds on other competitions.
Tranmere have needed replays in both previous rounds to get to this stage of the FA Cup. They were drawn at home against both Oxford City and Southport but Premier League opposition is a different prospect all together. Prenton Park is sure to be full for the visit of Spurs but an away victory is expected by most betting sites.
Tottenham will definitely be concentrating more on the Premier League and Champions League but Pochettino has said that he wants his side to go for all four trophies this season and their dedication to the EFL Cup has seen them get all the way to the semi final – so it is unlikely that they will underperform here.
Tranmere are back in League Two after three seasons of non-league football and are adapting well – challenging for a play-off spot towards the end of the year. Manager Mickey Mellon would love to cause a famous cup upset but will also know that a congested fixture list could ruin his plans for promotion this season.
Spurs have played only Premier League opposition in the EFL Cup this season so a challenge from a League Two side will be something different for them. But even with a much-changed side they should have too much for their opponents and could win this 4-0.
- Tottenham to win to nil
Tranmere would love to put one over a Premier League side but Tottenham have good strength in depth for these kinds of games now and should not have any problem progressing to the fourth round.
- Total goals over 3.5
The major players may get the afternoon off but there is plenty of talent on the Spurs bench to get a few goals in this one.

Head to Head
These two sides last played in the 2001/02 season when they met in both the FA Cup and the League Cup. Spurs won 4-0 on both occasions.
- Often thought of as a cup side, Tottenham Hotspur haven’t actually lifted the FA Cup since 1991, when they beat Nottingham Forest 2-1 in the final.
- The furthest Tranmere Rovers have got in the FA Cup is the quarter finals – a record they have achieved on three occasions.
- Spurs have won the FA Cup on eight occasions – only Manchester United and Arsenal have lifted the trophy more times. The North London side have also only ever been defeated in a final once – by Coventry in 1987.
- When Tranmere made it to the quarter final in the 1999/00 season, they also made it all the way to the final of the League Cup, where they lost 2-1 to Leicester City.
