Today’s Predictions: Saudi Arabia Vs Egypt

Saudi Arabia 2- 1 Egypt

Saudi Arabia vs Egypt

The 34th  match of the FIFA World Cup 2018 will take place between hosts Saudi Arabia and Egypt, with both teams already knocked out of the tournament.

  • Date : 25th June 2018
  • Time : 7:30 PM (IST)
  • Venue : Volgograd Stadium

The second match of the third round of the group stage is between Saudi Arabia and Egypt, with both teams now only playing for pride, and third place. Mohamed Salah would be looking to exit the world cup on a high.

FIFA World Cup Qualification

Saudi Arabia topped their group and dominated their way to World Cup qualification. They scored 28 goals in just 8 matches, with their forward Mohammad Al Sahlawi emerging as the top scorer in the AFC Qualification process with 14 goals.

Egypt were dominant during the CAF qualification rounds, topping a tough group containing Congo, Ghana and Uganda. Despite their dominance, they required a last gasp penalty from their talisman Mohamed Salah to confirm their qualification for the World Cup for the first time since 1990.

Team Form

This is Saudi Arabia’s first World Cup Finals’ appearance since 2006, and their team does not look to be in particularly great form either. However, their recent form has still been better than their opponents as the Green Falcons have won 2 matches in their last 6 games. They managed back-to-back impressive victories at home against Greece and Algeria, while also earning a credible draw against Ukraine.  However, in their first game in this tournament they were thrashed 5-0 by Russia.

Egypt haven’t been in the best of forms recently, with not a single win in their last 5 matches. More worryingly, they managed to score just 3 goals in those matches, and will most likely struggle to score without Mohamed Salah’s presence, as was the case in their first game against Uruguay.

Head To Head Record

These two nations have met 3 times before, with Egypt winning their last two matches, while Suadi won 5-1 back in 1991 in a friendly.

Saudi Arabia and Egypt in the World Cup So Far

Saudi Arabia began their World Cup campaign in the worst way possible, with a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of the hosts Russia. They looked in all sorts of trouble, with rumours of their players being threatened with punishment by some government officials. They improved but still lost their second match in a narrow 1-0 defeat to Uruguay.

Egypt were without Mohamed Salah for their opening game against Uruguay. They gave a good account of themselves, and their defence largely troubled Uruguay’s erstwhile brilliant attack. However, their resilience was broken towards the final few minutes as they conceded from a set piece and lost the game 1-0. Though Salah returned and even scored in the second match, they still lost 3-1 to Russia.

Team News

Saudi Arabia’s Maverick winger Nawaf Al Abed is the only notable absentee from the Green Falcon’s squad as he lost the race against time to be fit for the World Cup.

The major headline dominating the Egyptian news over the past month has been Mohamed Salah’s shoulder injury that forced him to be substituted in the UEFA Champions League final last month. Sergio Ramos’ rough challenge left the whole African country biting their nails, but he was back in their second game, and should be fully fit for this game.

Players To Watch Out For

Saudi Arabia’s main striker Mohammad Al-Sahlawi laid down the marker with 14 goals in the qualification rounds, and would be looking to prove himself at the biggest stage of the all. Young and speedy winger Salem Al-Dawsari grabbed everyone’s attention when he brilliantly assisted 2 goals to help Villareal come back from 2-0 down to draw the game against the mighty Real Madrid, in the Spanish La Liga last season. Though he fired a blank in the opening two games, Sahlawi is still a solid threat.

Egypt’s main attacking threat comes, unsurprisingly from their forward Mohamed Salah, who had a record breaking season with Liverpool, scoring a mammoth 45 goals in all competitions and also winning the PFA Player Of The Year award. Captain Essam El-Hadard, 45, is set to be the oldest player in FIFA World Cup history, and excelled in goal during the qualification process.

Saudi Arabia Vs Egypt Betting Odds And Key Statistics

  • Egypt are the favourites to win this match, especially with the return of their talisman Mohamed Salah.
  • Saudi Arabia haven’t scored a single goal till now, and we do not expect that to chance. Hence we strongly recommend online betting on the under 2.5 goals market as well as the both teams not to score market.
  • Mohamed Salah would be looking to exit the tournament on a high, and we advise betting on him to open the scoring in this match.

Predicted Result

Saudi Arabia have had a poor world cup, with not a single goal to their name yet. Egypt looked decent against Russia but were still eventually outclassed. We expect Mohamed Salah to score again and leave this tournament with a bit of pride.

Predicted Scoreline : Egypt 2-0 Saudi Arabia
