Today’s Predictions: Poland Vs Senegal
Poland 1 – 2 Senegal
The 15th match of the FIFA World Cup 2018 will take place between Poland and African hotshots Senegal, as we get Group H underway.
- Date : 19th June 2018
- Time 8:30 PM (IST)
- Venue : Spartak Stadium, Moscow
Poland have traditionally had strong qualifying campaigns, but have yet to fully transfer that form to major international tournaments. However, they reached the quarterfinals of Euro 2016 and would be looking for a better showing in Russia, pitted in a fairly manageable group along with Colombia and Japan as well.
FIFA World Cup Qualification
Poland dominated their way through the qualifiers, as is often the case with them, primarily due to the brilliance of their marquee forward Robert Lewandowski, who scored 16 goals along the way. They topped an easy group containing Denmark and Montenegro as their main challengers, scoring 27 goals in the process. However, their defence is weak and they conceded 14 goals as well, including a devastating 4-0 defeat to Denmark.
Senegal, inspired by the talismanic Liverpool forward Sadio Mane, comfortably topped their group as well, scoring 2 goals or more in almost all their matches. They were unbeaten in their group with 4 wins, including a crucial sealer against South Africa. They scored 10 goals and their qualification never looked in any doubt.
Poland have been in decent form of late, with their latest results also proving that their defence is a major weakness when compared to their brilliant attack. They got two wins against Lithuania and South Korea, however the Asian side still managed to score twice against them. While they had a high scoring draw against Chile, a 1-0 defeat to Nigeria was met with great disappointment.
Senegal have endured a poor run of form after their qualifiers, with a defeat to Croatia and draws against Uzbekistan, Luxembourg and Bosnia. However, they turned that around with a professional 2-0 victory over fellow World Cup challengers South Korea, to prove they are in good shape for this tournament.
Head To Head Record
These two nations have never met before.
Poland were dealt a massive blow, when their best defender Kamil Glik was ruled out of the tournament through a broken shoulder. However he has now been deemed fit enough to play their third group game, and any further games should they qualify. Other stalwarts like Blaszczykowski and Milik have been battling long term injuries as well, making their fans worried.
One of Senegal’s big names with Premier League experience, Mame Baram Diouf was not called up after missing several games due to injury recently. Mbaye Niang has now won 3 caps for the Senegal national team and is fully eligible to play for them despite turning out for Franc U-21s earlier.
Players To Watch Out For
Robert Lewandowski is undoubtedly the standout player in this Polish side, as he was the top scorer in the European qualifiers as well, and boasts of an exemplary prolific career at Dortmund and Bayern Munich both. Arkadiusz Milik is another brilliant forward whose career has been blighted by frequent injuries. However, if he’s fully fit he can be the perfect partner for Lewandowski up front and cause real problems for their opponents.
Senegal’s star man is unsurprisingly Sadio Mane, with the Liverpool forward back of a brilliant performance in the Champions League final, after he was forced to take charge of the attack as Mohammed Salah’s walked off injured. One of the best players to emerge out of the continent in recent times, Mane can change a game single handedly and is an explosive player. Napoli’s much sought after defender Koilibaly is also a huge star, and keeps Senegal rock solid at the back.
Poland Vs Senegal Betting Odds And Key Statistics
- Poland are making an 8th appearance in the World Cup, with their best ever finish being 3rd, in 1974 and 1982.
- This is just Senegal’s second appearance at the FIFA World Cup, with their previous one being that magical quarter final run in 2002 when they shocked the world by knocking out defending champions France, and scoring 7 goals in the tournament.
- Poland failed to qualify for the last two world cups, but have looked strong under Lewandowski’s leadership, and the striker would be looking to carry his team to the latter stages of the tournament. We strongly advise betting on Lewandowski to begin the scoring in this match.
- Poland kept just two clean sheets during their qualifiers, and hence we expect Senegal to trouble them at the back. Both teams to score is an attractive bet that we would suggest.
Though Senegal tend to keep things tight at the back, Poland’s attack can be devastating on their day and we expect the European side to eventually cross the line with a narrow win.
Our Predicted Score line : Poland 2 – 1 Senegal.
