Our Prediction St Kitts and Nevis Patriots vs Barbados Tridents:
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots shall win this game
As we enter the last week of the group stages of CPL 2018 all the teams have given us fair share of exciting contests. While some fans are eagerly waiting to see their teams for playoffs for some the remaining games is only an official formality. Jason Holder’s Barbados Tridents belong to the latter category as it has been a poor campaign for them with only two wins so far and they have only pride to play for as they take on Chris Gayle’s St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the next game.
For the Patriots who have already qualified for the play-offs they would like to win their last game in the group stages and go into the next round with confidence.
Jason Holder’s team has looked clueless over the last two weeks as they lost five games on a trot to St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, Trinbago Knight Riders, Jamaica Tallawahs, Guyana Amazon Warriors and St Lucia Stars. While they had kick-started the tournament on the right note with a convincing win against Warriors the side has been in tatters in the last few games. The team not only lost its momentum but key players have failed to deliver when the fans would have wanted them to do so the most. Sitting at bottom of the points table the side would hope to offer something to cheer about for its fans.
Batting has led the side down throughout the tournament and barring odd performances from Martin Guptil, Shai Hope, Steven Smith, Holder and Dwayne Smith there has been nothing for the side to write about. In fact most of these stars have performed in isolation and this has brought about their downfall this season. The same has been the story with the bowling department as they have failed to contain opponents. We have seen the odd good performances from Mohammad Irfan, Wahab Riaz and Ashley Nurse but these haven’t been enough to take the team past the finishing line. Going into the next game the odds are heavily stacked against them and the side would hope to end the season on a high.
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots
Though Chris Gayle’s side was looking indifferent in the first few games of the league they have had few good performances which has allowed them to earn a spot in the play-offs. But the side would be worried about its recent run when they win a game and go into the next and showing inconsistency. In fact they have lost 2 out of their last four games with one being abandoned. The losses to Warriors and Knight Riders raised some question marks about the temperament of the side. Their previous win against Tridents would give the confidence going into the next game. Gayle would hope his side peak from here as they take on better teams in the next round.
Skipper Chris Gayle is in brilliant form with the bat and the side would take confidence from it. Evin Lewis, Anton Devcich, Brandon King and wicketkeeper Devon Thomas have had good tournament so far and the batting looks extremely strong when Gayle is on song. While they have had few batting collapses this season they would like to iron it out in this game. Bowling has shown constant improvements so far in the season. Anton Devcich has looked great and so is Mahmudullah. Carlos Brathwaite is also doing well with the ball and they shouldn’t have worries in restricting the Tridents’ batsmen in the game.
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots have put up good show so far in the tournament and look favourites to win this game without any doubt.
