SL vs NZ 1st T20I Squad Comparison

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka will be led by Lasith Malinga while their ODI and Test captain Dimuth Karunaratne will be missing out on the T20Is. Avishka Fernando will have a big role to play at the top. Danushka Gunathilaka has also made it to the squad as a batting all-rounder. The performances of these two batsmen will shape the Sri Lankan innings. Shehan Jayasuriya and Dasun Shanaka are other batting all-rounders in the squad for Sri Lanka.

Shanaka can be crucial in the middle order and would be expected to fine-tune his innings as the situation demands. Niroshan Dickwella and Kusal Perera could be the two wicket-keeper batsmen Sri Lanka plays. In addition, the home team has also included Kusal Mendis in the T20I squad. Kasun Rajitha and Lahiru Kumara would be expected to deliver breakthroughs bowling alongside skipper Malinga. Lasith Malinga is Sri Lanka’s core strength in the bowling department while Akila Dananjaya could be handy in the middle overs with his right-arm off-break.

New Zealand

New Zealand must be confident winning the 2nd Test match though their T20I squad is a lot different from their Test one. Tom Bruce, Scott Kuggeleijn, Colin Munro Daryl Mitchell and Todd Astle are included in the squad along-side Mitchell Santner and Colin de Grandhomme. While Tim Southee leads the Blackcaps in the T20I series, he will be joined by Lockie Ferguson in the bowling department.

Martin Guptill and Ross Taylor with their experience can be dangerous in the shorter format of the game. Daryl Mitchell has played some good cricket in the T20 tournament in New Zealand last year. With some promising all-rounders in the side along with Tim Seifert as the only wicket-keeper batsman in the squad, New Zealand seems a well-balanced side. New Zealand has two spinners in their bowling arsenal with Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi both of whom would be crucial on Sri Lankan pitches.
