Skipper Thisara Perera who would wear the captain’s hat in the T20 game and the Sri Lankan fans finally had something to cheer about. Their dominant performance in the last ODI seemed surreal from a team that looked to have lost the art of winning. What was most impressive about the performance was the fact that they dominated the game right from the first ball to the last before rains played spoilsport. Everything went according to script with the batsmen putting up a huge score and the bowlers getting rid of the Top 4 in English batting line-up before the end of the first power play. Perera would hope his side keeps up with the momentum going into T20 game and wins it to restore lost pride.
On the batting front Sri Lankans showed their potential in the last game. They have a good opening pair in the form of wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella and Kusal Perara and a strong middle order that includes Dinesh Chandimal, Kusal Mendis and Dasun Shanaka. With all the players having scored runs in the last game they would walk out confidentially during the T20 game. The side bats low which will be a great advantage going into this game. As far as their bowling is concerned they have a good opening ball attack in Lasith Malinga and Dushmantha Chameera. With spinners Akila Dananjaya and the ambidextrous bowler Kamindu Mendis they have the resources to take on the strong English batting line-up.
Eoin Morgan would have least expected Sri Lankans to mount the kind of assault they did in the last ODI. His side seemed complacent a bit and after having suffered the kind of humiliation would be raring to go out there and prove their character in the game. That said England is one of the best T20 sides in the world having an army of power hitters. With the kind of arsenal that Morgan has at his disposal he would be confident about registering a win against the host who apart from their performance in the last game have played pretty ordinarily.
The batting line-up for England is formidable with Jason Roy and Jos Butler at the top. They have always given great starts to their side. The middle order for England is as good as one would expect in a T20 with Morgan, Alex Hales, Jonny Bairstow and Ben Strokes. The bowling attack for England also has the right variety of spin and pace with Chris Woakes and Olly Stone with the new ball along with Strokes and the two spinners Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali who would look to exploit these conditions.
While Sri Lankans would go into this game with momentum in terms of skills and experience England are a far better side and they would definitely start as favourites to win this T20 game.
Our Prediction for Sri Lanka vs England
England will win the T20 game
The 5-Match ODI series is over and England have won it comprehensively 3-1 with one game being washed away, so would say the final score sheet. What is interesting though is the performance of the hosts during the last game where they undid all the mistakes of the previous games and won it by a record margin of 219 runs by the DLS method. All the four completed games in the tournament were affected by rain and fans would hope weather gods show some mercy during the lone T20 contest between the two sides. Few would have had any hopes on the Sri Lankan side before the 5th ODI but their spectacular performances has surely raised the hopes for a keen contest at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo that would host the upcoming T20 game.
