Our Prediction South Africa vs Zimbabwe 1st T20

South African team looks favourites to win the 1st T20i

The 3-Match ODI series is over and South Africa has comfortably won it 3-0 against Zimbabwe. Now the visitors Zimbabwe would like to change their fortunes as they take on the strong South African side in the 3-Match T20 series playing the first game at Buffalo Park, East London. While the 3-0 score line of the ODI series may suggest comprehensive win for the hosts it was anything but comprehensive. They were made to struggle in every game by the Zimbabweans who came up with spirited performances in all the three games but didn’t do well enough to win even one of the games. The visitors would count their chances in the T20 format as these games can be won with good performances over a short period of play which the side displayed well over the course of three ODI games.

The hosts would undeniably start as favourites to with the game. A 3-0 result at the end of the series wouldn’t raise any eyebrows. There is a wide gap that divided the two sides in terms of skills and experience but the shortest format of the game is known to throw up surprises on a regular basis. The return of Faf du Plessis as skipper strengthens the side as does the inclusion of the hard-hitting David Miller. JP Duminy would feel relieved giving away the captain’s hat as there were moments during the ODI series when he seemed all set to end up as the losing captain. du Plessis wouldn’t want his men to take the visitors lightly especially after the kind of hiccups in the ODI series.

The South African batting line-up is strong and formidable. Quinton de Kock and David Miller would fancy scoring against the Zimbabweans at start of the game. In du Plessis, JP Dumminy and Heinrich Klaasen the team has a strong middle order with each having the firepower to take the bowlers out of the park. But it is their bowling unit which is expected to go for the kill against the weak batting side that the visitors have. Lungi Ngidi and Andile Phehlukwayo would be too hot to handle for the visitors and in Imran Tahir and Junior Dala they have a well-balanced attack.

Zimbabwe

Hamilton Masakadza would be both proud and frustrated at the performance of his side in the ODI series. They made the South Africans run for their money in all the three games but at the same time weren’t able to convert winning positions into wins in the first two games. They come into this series with string of losses in this format. They lost 2-0 against Afghanistan and weren’t able to win a single game against Pakistan and Australia in recently concluded T20 tri-series. But the skipper would count on his men to come up with strong performances in the T20s like they did in the ODIs and defeat the South Africans in this upcoming game.

The opening combination of Solomon Mire and Chamu Chibhabha struggled in the last T20 series and they need to provide better start to the side. Skipper Masakadza remains the mainstay of the batting at No. 3 and with Brendan Taylor and Sean Williams would have to hold on the innings to put up big runs on the board. The lower order would also need to make important contributions against the strong South African bowling attack. As for the bowling attack the trio of Kyle Jarvis, Tendai Chatara and Neville Madziva would need to bowl well if the side are to pose a strict challenge to their stronger neighbours.

Zimbabwe has shown some sparks in the ODI series but South Africa would start as overwhelming favourites to win this T20 game.
