Faf du Plessis the South African captain would start as a confident leader. His side is in great form and they just went about their business against the Pakistanis clinically and the Sri Lankan team given its current state of form doesn’t look threatening at all. But du Plessis has been at the helm for long to know that his side can ill afford to take their opponents lightly as Lankans have little to lose and might come up with an effort that lifts the mood in their camp. All du Plessis would be expecting his team to do is stick to their basics and start the series on a winning note.
Openers Aiden Markram and Dean Elgar form a good opening pair and the latter who had a quite series against Pakistan would like to make his mark in the upcoming game. Hashim Amla has been in good form and Temba Bavuma also has made an impressive start to his career. With Faf du Plessis and Quinton de Kock in the middle order the side has the batting to win the game. The all-impressive bowling line-up of Kagiso Rabada, Vernon Philander and Dale Steyn would be raring to have a go at the inexperienced Sri Lankan batting line-up. Keshav Maharaj will add the much needed variety to the Indian attack.
Dimuth Karunaratne will make his captaincy debut with Dinesh Chandimal having been dropped from the side. He will be fourth captain over a period of 18 months which speaks volumes about the kind of turmoil Sri Lankan cricket is undergoing. They have experimented a lot in the last two years and nothing has worked for the side. Apart from Test series with against the South Africans the side has nothing to show. That victory also game in tailored tracks at home. All that Karunaratne would want from his side is to challenge the South Africans and especially his batsmen showing some hunger to stick to the wicket and build partnerships.
Dimuth Karunaratne and Lahiru Thirimanne have shown the temperament in the last few games and they would need to convert their starts into big scores for the side to match up to the fiery pace of South African bowlers. Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera and Dhananjaya de Silva will have to build partnerships in the middle order for the side to do well. The skipper would also expect Niroshan Dickwella to play a good knock toward the end. The bowling looks good with Suranga Lakmal and Vishwa Fernando sharing the new ball and they would have to pick early wickets. Lasith Embuldeniya and Kasun Rajitha will need to better their performance compared to the last series for the team to do well.
Our Prediction for South Africa vs Sri Lanka 1st Test Match
South Africa will win the 1st Test Match
The first test match between South Africa would be a contest between two contrasting sides. South Africa comes into this game having whitewashed the Pakistanis 3-0 in their last home series while Sri Lanka have lost their last six out of seven games and managed to draw the other. The visitors are going through one of their most pathetic runs over the last two decades. South African pacers who have been in great form for the last few months would come hard at the Sri Lankans and it would be interesting to see how the visitors stand up to the challenge in a lively pitch at Kingsmead, Durban.
From a cricket betting
perspective, given the form the two sides are in South African team would start as overwhelming favourites to win the game.
