The series win also came with some bad news for the South Africans as their regular skipper Faf du Plessis has been suspended from the next game due to slow over rate. In his absence Dean Elgar would most probably take command over the ship. They team which has executed its plans brilliantly in the first two games going out against the Pakistanis with a quality seam attack and winning both the games comfortably. Now they have the opportunity to win the series 3-0 and the side wouldn’t want this opportunity to slip by its hands.
Aiden Markram and Dean Elgar have been batting well in the series at the top and that is good news for the side. Hashim Amla is also looking in good tough and the youngster Temba Bavuma seems to be growing in confidence with every game. While Faf du Plessis’ absence would be felt in the middle order South Africa does have the bench strength to do well while batting in the next game. The bowling attack has looked splendid in both the games with Dale Steyn, Duanne Olivier, Vernon Philander and Kagiso Rabada looking in great form. They would be planning to attack the Pakistani batsmen and make them struggle once again in the next game.
The same problems haunted Sarfraz Ahmed’s team in the 2nd Test Match as we had seen in the series opener. Their top order doesn’t seem to have the skills and the technique to stand up against quality fast bowling. While it was definitely a tough wicket to bat on the side didn’t show the temperament to see off the shine of the ball in the 1st innings. They are staring at a humiliating white wash in the next Test match. The only ray of hope would be the fact that they would have gained experience in playing against the South African pace battery and would look to bat well in the next game and save some pride.
Fakhar Zaman doesn’t have the technique or temperament to play in these conditions, and was rightfully replaced by Shan Masood as opener in the 2nd innings. Masood has proved to be only batsmen for his side ready to play the new ball. Imam-ul-Haq was also found wanting while Asad Shafiq, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Babar Azam did bat well in the last game. Azhar Ali has to do the scoring in the next game as he is the best batsman for the side in these conditions. Mohammad Amir and Shaheen Afridi did bowl well in the last game but Mohammad Abbas failed to trouble the hosts. Yasir Shah who has failed in the last two games would need to do well in the upcoming game as the hosts aren’t known to be best players of spin.
Our Prediction for South Africa vs Pakistan, 3rd Test Match
South Africa shall win the 3rd Test Match
If the first Test Match of the series was a story of Pakistan’s chronic problem against quality fast bowling the word for the second game would surely be capitulation. They result of the Test Match had almost been sealed in the first session on the first day when the visitors lost five wickets with 54 runs on the board. While they put up good resistance in the second innings it wasn’t enough to put up any serious challenge against the South Africans as the hosts won the game comfortably. With the series already lost it would be interesting to see if the Pakistanis are able to put up a challenge against the hosts in the final game at Wanderers, Johannesburg.
Pakistan has shown little hunger for win in the two Test Matches so far. As things stand, from a cricket betting
point of view, South Africans would be favourite to win the upcoming game and the series 3-0
