The win in the first Test wasn’t as convincing as the South African team is used to at home. Skipper Faf du Plessis would have been proud of the performance his team came up with after being challenged while batting in the first innings. It isn’t often that the South African batting is put under pressure in home conditions but since the retirement of the AB the team has struggled to get its batting line-up in order. The bowlers were magnificent in both innings of the game. With a series win on the cards du Plessis would hope his bowlers cause trouble for the Pakistani side and the batsmen play well to win the next game.
It was a poor batting performance in the first innings which put the home side under lot of pressure in the last game. Aiden Markram had a poor game and he would hope to give the team a great start along with Dean Elgar in the next game. Hashim Amla played a good knock in the 2nd innings which would make the skipper feel confident about his form. Theunis de Bruyn, Faf du Plessis and Temba Bavuma need to play well in the middle order for the side to do well in the next game. Bowling performance would have surely pleased the skipper. Duanne Olivier was brilliant in the last game and so were Kagiso Rabada and Dale Steyn. Along with Keshav Maharaj they need to continue with their good form in the next game.
The team didn’t do much to improve its reputation of being bad tourist outside the sub-continent. Sarfraz Ahmed would have been seriously disappointed with the side’s performance. To lose a Test Match where they had South Africa on the mat in the first innings wouldn’t go down well with Ahmed who has built reputation for being a tough task master. The batting collapse in the 2nd innings was what led to their defeat. With the series loss at stake in the next game he would hope his side bounces back and wins the game. It would be a tough challenge against the South African pacers but his side needs to show the determination.
Imam-ul-Haq did well in the 2nd innings but Fakhar Zaman’s technique as an opener raises doubts in these conditions. Shan Masood and Ashar Ali were the only two batsmen who looked comfortable apart from Babar Azam. Asad Shafiq and Sarfaraz Ahmed need to bat well for the others to build partnerships with them. Pakistani bowlers had a good game in the last Test Match with the three frontline fast bowlers Mohammad Amir, Hasan Ali and Shaheen Afridi bowling well. Yasir Shah would need to expose South Africa’s weakness against spin in the upcoming game.
Our Prediction for South Africa vs Pakistan, 2nd Test Match
South Africa shall win the 2nd Test Match
involving Pakistan in Test Matches outside the sub-continent is seldom a tough ask. They have been poor tourists and didn’t do anything great to upset that reputation in the 1st Test Match. Despite their poor batting in the 1st innings they did have the edge for a while in the game only to surrender it. As the action now moves to Newlands, Cape Town South Africans would be raring to unleash their pacers upon a vulnerable Pakistani batting line-up. The hosts also have had their issues playing against the Pakistani fast bowlers and with Cape Town track expected to offer pace and bounce it would be interesting to see how the two teams shape up.
South Africans have a better bowling line-up and given how they troubled the Pakistanis in the first Test Match they would start ahead of the visitors in the upcoming game.
