Sheffield League Prediction

The 2020-21 season of Sheffield Shield would signal the resumption of the domestic season in Australia which had been temporarily suspended due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. The tournament had to be suspended last season into its last round where New South Wales Blues bagged the title sitting on the top of the points table. With this season being played under restrictions no spectators would be allowed in the stadium. But the cricketers would be raring to go out and perform in the middle after the long break they have had.

The second oldest first-class cricket competition in the world, the Sheffield Shield has acted as the nursery for generations of Australian cricketers. Since the inaugural 1892-93 season of the league, it has seen several cricketers write their names into history books. It is one of the most followed first-class tournaments in the world. The 119th season of the tournament is all set to witness competitive games and the arrival of new stars to the scene. Bettors would naturally have their eyes on this league.

Who will win Sheffield Shield 2020-21?

It is a fresh season and hence every team shall start the season with the aim of winning the title. The season would see the debut of young players and the sides would be without their overseas players due to the travel restrictions. While some teams have dominated the league over the last few years it is difficult to pick a team that is likely to win it without much of challenge. Here we look back at the performance of the sides over the last few years to give you a clue on the likely winners for this season –

# New South Wales Blues

The defending champions would be confident going into this new season of the league after bagging the title for the 47th time last season. Peter Nevill’s side dominated the last season earning one-sided wins in most games. Having the same core group of players they would be looking to start from where they left last season. With a strong bowling attack and a decent group of batsmen, they are likely to start as one of the favorites this season.

# Victoria

Peter Handscomb’s side had a poor season last year by its standards finishing second on the points table. They never recovered from the slow start and the 33-time title winners would look to get back to their dominant best. They have a strong batting line-up which helped them win the title four times in the last six seasons and the side. They will be looking for a positive start and aim at another title.

# Queensland Bulls

Usman Khawaja’s side finished third last season and the nine-time title winners have been plagued by the same problem of inconsistency for the last two seasons after their 2017-18 title win. The side has a good balance in its batting and bowling departments well complemented by good all-rounders. They would be looking to make a good start this season and not drop their guard down after a strong start as was the case last year.

# Tasmanian Tigers

The last few seasons haven’t quite gone the way skipper Tim Paine and his men would have liked. They have languished at the bottom of the points table and apart from few victories, there hasn’t been much to cheer about for the team. They had last won the title in 2012-13 and skipper Paine would be looking for more consistency from his team this season as they aim for their 7th title in the tournament.

# Western Australia Warriors

It’s been 20 years since the side has won a title which last game in the 1998-99 season. Since then it has been a story of the side not being able to hold onto its nerves when the situation demands. With skipper, Mitchell Marsh ruled out with an injury in the first leg of the season Shaun Marsh is likely to lead the side. He would like to bring to an end their title drought with a good show this season.

# South Australia Redbacks

They have finished last in the last three seasons and seven times in the last ten seasons. Travis Head’s side would need to come up with something special if they are to win their first title since 1995-96. They have managed just two wins in the last two seasons which is testimony to their poor form. With several young players in the squad, they would look or a better show this year.
