Who will win Sheffield Shield 2019?

Every team shall start the season with the aim of winning the title. The season would see debut of young players many of whom would go on to represent Australia in the years to come. While some teams have dominated the league over the last few years it is difficult to pick a team that is likely to win it without much of challenge. Here we look back at the performance of the sides over the last few years to give you a clue on the likely winners for this season –

# Victoria

The defending champions have been the most consistent team over the last few years winning the title four times in the last five seasons. They would start as one of the favourites. They dominated the league last season losing just one of out their ten games in the league stage and would look to carry the same form into this season.

# New South Wales

The runner-up last season they are the most successful team in the history of the tournament with 46 titles and would be looking to add one more to their kitty. It has been a draught of sorts for the side with their last title win coming back in 2013-14. They looked good last season only to lose in the finals and would want to better that this season.

# Western Australia

They finished third last season putting up mixed performances. The Perth Boys haven’t won a title since the dawn of the new millennia with their last win coming back in 1998-99 season of the tournament. The team would look to end their two decade title draught and have an exciting bunch of players taking the field this season.

# Queensland

They started slowly last season and weren’t able to keep up with the pace towards the end finishing fourth on the points table. They last won the title in 2017-18 but weren’t able to repeat the same form last season. The team has quality players among its ranks and would be looking to make a good start to the new season.

# Tasmania

The side last won the title in 2012-13 and since then hasn’t been able to repeat the same magic. They had a poor season last year where they managed to win just three games and never looked to be in the hunt for the title. The side would look to keep that behind and want to make a fresh start to the season.

# South Australia

Few generations of cricketers have represented the side since their last title win in 1995-96. The side has seen a downward slide since then and has been bottom hunters on the points table over the last decade. Last year they failed to win a single and game and this year they would look to improve upon their performance.
