Borussia Mönchengladbach have not been able to translate their form from the German league when they play in Europe this season, as Roma top the group after three games.
It ended with a draw at the Stadio Olimpico last round and Gladbach are in desperate need of a turnaround to keep up in the fight for a place in the knockout stages. Both Wolfsberger AC and Istanbul Basaksehir are on four points, two above bottom-placed Gladbach. It doesn’t seem likely to change when an in-form Roma comes to visit. But with both teams on two draws in three games, it might be another shared point in Germany.
MATCH TO END IN A DRAW
Roma have hit form of late, not losing away in Serie A since playing against SPAL in March, 2019. They are unbeaten also in Europa League and have scored in every away game but once since the start of the new seasons. With Gladbach ready to go all-in to advance in the tournament and finally kick-start their season in Europe, this might be a thrilling affair at Borussia-Park.
TOTAL GOALS OVER 2.5
The sides drew 1-1 in their first meeting and we might get another score draw at Borussia-Park this week. Despite struggling against Italian sides in Europe, the Germans are proving to be a strong force at home this season and might provide a completely different challenge for a Roma side also struggling to pick up wins in Germany.
BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
Head to Head
The two sides have only met once before, when it ended 1-1 at the Stadio Olimpico at the end of last month. It ended in a draw when former U21 international Lars Stindl grabbed the equaliser in stoppage time. Nicolo Zaniolo scored the goal for Roma after 32 minutes in the first half, but a late penalty saved one point for the visitors.
Gladbach to win
Two teams who are expected to go through the group might be happy to share the spoils in a direct meeting under normal circumstances, but Gladbach need three points and will have to throw everything forward to catch up. All depending on what happens in the groups other fixture between Wolfsberger and Istanbul Basaksehir.
