Sheffield Shield Match No 14 Teams Comparison
It couldn’t have been a worst start for Jimmy Peirson and his boys this season. They have played four games so far this season and are still to finish on the right side. They lost badly against Tasmania and New South Wales and escaped with draws against South Australia and Western Australia. This was the last thing that would have been expected from last year’s title winners. They have batted and bowled poorly in all the games and find themselves at the bottom of the table. They will have to pull up their socks as they take on the table toppers in the next game.
Joe Burns has done relatively well as an opener this season but Matt Renshaw has been going through poor run. In the middle order as well the side has problems as Marnus Labuschagne has struggled too and so has Sam Heazlett. Charlie Hemphrey has looked in all the games he has played but it will take more spirited performance from their batsmen in the upcoming game. The bowlers have failed the side badly so far and apart from Mark Steketee and Mitchell Swepson none of the other bowlers have done justice to their selection. The likes of Brendan Doggett and Jack Wildermuth need to bowl well to help the side win the upcoming game.
Peter Handscomb would be proud of the way his side has played in this season so far. They started the season with a big win against Western Australia by an innings and 45 runs and followed it up with another win by an innings margin against New South Wales. They drew against South Australia and come with this game after a convincing win against Tasmania. The team has played as a well-gelled unit so far where most players have made important contributions. Handscomb would want his side to maintain the momentum and keep their lead in the points table.
Marcus Harris has been in sublime touch this season and his partner Travis Dean who struggled in the first three games has found form in the last game. Peter Handscomb, Cameron White and Matthew Short have all had good hits this season and this puts them in a strong position as far as their batting is concerned. Even in terms of the bowling the side has done well. The new ball pair of Chris Tremain and Scott Boland are giving nightmares to the opponents. Fawad Ahmed and James Pattinson have also looked good in the two games he has played so far and they have the bowling attack to win the next game.
Our Prediction for Queensland vs Victoria
Victoria will win the game
It is a contest between two contrasting sides. At their home ground Gabba last year’s title winners Queensland would take on table toppers Victoria in what is a very important game for the home side. Queensland is yet to win a game this season and seem to have got into a state of hopelessness with their players failing to perform when required. Victoria on the other hand has been in immaculate form so far in the season. As stakes are high for the home side they would look to get their first win of the season and regain the form they showed in the previous season. Victoria won’t let it go easily and this should make it a good contest.
Given the form that separates the two sides at the moment, Victoria would definitely start as favourites to win this contest.
