ICC World Cup Match 23 Squad Comparison

Papua New Guinea

While Papua New Guinea lost both warm-up matches at Dubai and Abu Dhabi, they bounced back really well in the second match. PNG was all-out for 97 runs batting first against Oman in Dubai. Tony Ura was top scorer for the team with 39 off 35 balls. While defending such a small target wasn’t easy, PNG bowlers did well to pick up 6 wickets in 17 overs. However, Oman chased it down with 4 wickets in hand as N Pokana, N Vanua, S Bau C Amini all picked 1 wicket each for PNG.

In the next match, PNG conceded 193 runs and picked up 2 wickets bowling first against UAE at Abu Dhabi. J Kila and D Ravu picked a wicket each bowling at economies of 12 and 14.50 respectively. While the bowling took a hit, Papua New Guinea’s batting improved from their last match as they finished with 178-7 in 20 overs. Tony Ura (33) and S Bau (40) were the top run-scorers for PNG. The middle-order consisting of S Bau, L Siaka and K Doriga would be crucial in the upcoming match against Bermuda. PNG would be looking to continue their form with the bat and back their batsmen to play freely.

Bermuda

Bermuda won their 1st warm-up match against Nigeria defending 171 runs. After O Bascome scored 49 off 35 balls opening for Bermuda, Deunte Darrell scored unbeaten 47 off 25 balls at number 5 taking the side to a defendable total. Kamau Leverock who scored 23 runs at number 3 later picked up 2 for 14 in 3 overs defending the total. George O Brien had the same economy as Leverock while picking up 1 wicket. Bermuda wrapped up Nigeria’s inning for 118 winning the match by 53 runs.

In the next warm-up game against Hong Kong, Leverock picked 2 for 27 in 4 overs bowling first as Bermuda ended up conceding 160 runs for 5 wickets. Leverock was the top bowler for Bermuda on both occasions while no particular batsman shined with the bat this time around. Openers Bascome and Fray were out for 0 and 2 runs respectively chasing 161. Batting all-rounder Rawlins scored 20 off 18 balls at number 8, while Deunte Darrell was out for 24 off 28 balls at number 5. Bermuda finished with 136-8 runs on the board losing the match by 24 runs.

Our Prediction for Papua New Guinea vs Bermuda

Papua New Guinea is likely to win the match

Given their warm-up match performances, PNG seems to have the momentum on their side even if they’d lost both the matches. Their batting bounced back from a very disappointing performance earlier in the tournament, while on the other hand, Bermuda doesn’t seem to have what it takes to chase big totals or put big totals on the board batting first.

Betting sites in India have Papua New Guinea as favorites to win in the pre-match winner market. Though the difference between the indicated probability of a win for both teams is very less. Bermuda stands a good chance of winning this one if they bat first and put a total of 170 above and back their bowlers – K Leverock, R Trott, and JJ Tucker.
