Squad Comparison

Babar Azam scored 115 off 105 balls at number 3 giving Pakistan a great start to the home season against Sri Lanka in the 2nd ODI. Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq added 73 runs for the 1st wicket while Fakhar was out in the 21st over scoring 54 off 65 balls. Haris Sohail batted at number 4 ahead of skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed and scored 40 off 48 balls with 1 four in his inning. Pakistan’s batting order looks in solid form with their star batsmen Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam in good touch. While batting all-rounder Iftikhar Ahmed was included in the playing XI and he made the most of it scoring unbeaten 32 off 20 balls at number 6.

While Mohammad Amir was very economical in his spell as finished 1 for 21 in 7 overs, Usman Shinwari bowled a match-winning spell for Pakistan. Shinwari finished with figures of 5 for 51 in 10 overs including one maiden over. Wahab Riaz too was very economical and picked up 1 wicket in his 9 overs. Pakistan had reduced Sri Lanka to 28-5 defending a total of 305 runs. Usman Shinwari provided a breakthrough breaking a record partnership between Shehan Jayasuriya and Dasun Shanka.

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka’s bowlers couldn’t find success as the top wicket-taker Wanidu Hasaranga finished with 2 for 63 while Udana and Lahiru Kumara picked 1 wicket each. However, Sri Lanka enforced 3 run outs in the field dismissing Haris Sohail, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Wahab Riaz. Danushka Gunathilaka and wicket-keeper batsman Sadeera Samarawickrama opened the innings for the hosts. The two couldn’t stay on the crease for long and were back in the hut in the 7th over.

While Avishka Fernando batting at number 3 was out for a duck after playing 7 balls, skipper Lahiru Thirimanne was out on the 3rd delivery he faced without scoring a run. It was Shehan Jayasuriya (96) and Dasun Shanaka (68) who gave Sri Lanka a fighting chance together adding 177 runs for the 6th wicket. There wasn’t much batting left after them and Sri Lanka were bowled out for 238 runs in the 47th over. An utterly disappointing performance from Sri Lanka’s top order and a below-average bowling effort cost them the match.
