PAK vs SL Squad Comparison

Pakistan team and the fans must be disappointed after the 1st ODI was washed out. Though it has given both teams more time to reassess their strategies and game plans, the delay would only help Pakistan. Babar Azam, Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman have a big role to play at the top for the home team. While there hasn’t been an international match in Karachi since 2015, the Pakistani batsmen and all-rounders like Imad Wasim, Shadab Khan, and Mohammad Nawaz have given great performances in the local ODI and T20 leagues at home.

Sarfaraz Ahmed will be keen on making an impression with the bat in the middle-order. Since Pakistan’s batting line-up has some decent all-rounders, Sarfaraz Ahmed could demote himself down the order allowing Haris Sohail, and Asif Ali to bat higher. Early losses for Pakistan at the top would mean Sarfaraz coming in to bat at number 4 and building a partnership in the middle. While the batting looks solid when going up against Sri Lanka, the bowling attack is stronger. Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riaz had impressed everyone during the ICC World Cup with the swing while the young pacer Mohammad Hasnain will be one to watch out for.

Sri Lanka

Lahiru Thirimanne will be leading the Sri Lankan team in the ODI series against Pakistan. Sri Lanka will now be hoping the skipper along with Avishka Fernando gives a good start at the top-order while Danushka Gunathilaka would need to build a strong partnership in the middle. The in-form batsmen and all-rounders for Sri Lanka have backed out of this tour adding extra responsibility on Lahiru Thirmianne and Avishka Fernando.

While Avishka Fernando is a good batsman at number 3 and also as an opener, it is less likely that he would play as freely as he did with Kusal Perera and Mendis in the side. Dasun Shanaka, Shehan Jayasuriya and Angelo Perera are the batting all-rounders in the squad along with Isuru Udana. Shanaka is crucial to the playing XI and might find a place along with Udana and Gunathilaka. Sri Lanka’s best hope would be their bowling attack that consists of Nuwan Pradeep, Lahiru Kumara, Wanidu Hasaranga and Kasun Rajitha. Pradeep, Kumara, and Rajitha have more experience than the rest and along with Isuru Udana, they would have a big role to play with the ball.

Our Prediction for Pakistan vs Sri Lanka

Pakistan are favorites to win this match

Pakistan’s bowling attack is one of the best in the world and playing at their home venue, they will pose a tough challenge to the visitors. Also, Sri Lanka’s batting department might need time to settle down as a unit and get their game-plans and strategies sorted under the new captain. The top betting sites in India have now even higher odds for Sri Lanka than the 1st match of the series.
