PAK vs SL 1st T20I Squad Comparison

After winning the ODI series, Pakistan would be keen on continuing their T20I dominance with in-form batting lineup and a formidable bowling attack. In addition to Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman, the Pakistan batting department in the T20I squad also consists of Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad. While the all-rounders set up for T20I series against Sri Lanka is similar to that of the ODIs, Faheem Ashraf will be a part of the T20I squad for Pakistan. The bowling attack consisting of Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Hasnain, Wahab Riaz and Usman Shinwari is the same as the ODI squad.

While Asif Ali and Mohammad Hasnain were also a part of the ODI squad, the two didn’t make it to the playing XI in the ODI series. From a bowling perspective, Shadab Khan is crucial in the T20 format while bowling all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz has a god experience playing at home conditions in T20 matches. Batting all-rounders Haris Sohail and Iftikhar Ahmed played some good innings for the side in the one-day international series. Faheem Ashraf, Imad Wasim and Mohammad Nawaz have all done really well as bowling all-rounders in the PSL. It would be beneficial for Sarfaraz Ahmed to include more bowling all-rounders giving himself more bowling options.

Sri Lanka

Dasun Shanka will be leading the Sri Lankan team in T20I series against Pakistan. He’s played a crucial role in the middle-order for Sri Lanka in the ODI series and now has a bigger responsibility. In addition to Avishka Fernando and Oshada Fernando, Bhanuka Rajapaksa joins the batting department of the Sri Lanka T20I squad. Batting all-rounder Lahiru Madushanka is another addition to the squad making it 6 all-rounders from 5 in the ODI series.

Wanidu Hasaranga will lead the bowling attack along with the experienced Nuwan Pradeep. While Malinga’s absence is a big blow to the Sri Lankan T20 set up, Nuwan Pradeep and Lahiru Kumara can make a great deal of impact in the shorter format. While Avishka Fernando failed at number 3 and 2 in the ODI series scoring 0 and 1, Danushka Gunathilaka looked in good touch as he scored 133 in the 3rd ODI against Pakistan. Gunathilaka and Dasun Shanka will the key players for Sri Lanka to watch out for. If Avishka Fernando and Danushka Gunathilaka get going in the power play and give Sri Lanka a strong start, Dasun Shanaka and Shehan Jayasuriya in the middle can push the envelope further taking Sri Lanka to a defendable total.

Our Prediction for Pakistan vs Sri Lanka

Pakistan are favourites to win this match

While the betting sites in India indicate an 80% probability of a Pakistan win, the scales could change in Sri Lanka’s favour if the visitors deliver a strong bowling and batting performance early in the game. It is less likely for the odds to shift in Sri Lanka’s favour given Pakistan’s bowling options and Sri Lanka’s weak batting line-up.
