ICC World Cup Match 30 Squad Comparison

Pakistan

Sarfaraz Ahmed’s side would have to come out of the pain they suffered at the hands of archrivals India in the last game. They never looked comfortable in the game and lost it right at the toss putting Indians into bat. Apart from their win against England the side has looked completely out of touch in the tournament. Batting collapses have been norm for the side and the bowlers also haven’t been able to compensate poor show by the batsmen. They still have a chance to make it to the semi-finals and Sarfaraz whose captaincy is being questioned will have to inspire confidence in his side.

Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq have done relatively well at the top and would look to give their side a good start. Babar Azam has done well but it is the lower order that has to rise up to the challenge. Mohammad Hafeez, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Shoaib Malik need to steady the ship while Imad Wasim and Shadab Khan have to finish things in the right manner. In the bowling department Mohammad Amir has done well but the rest of the bowlers haven’t delivered the goods. Hasan Ali and Wahab Riaz have been too expensive and their famed spin attack has failed. Imad Wasim, Shadab Khan and Hafeez would need to exploit South Africa’s problems with spin in the next game for the side to win.

South Africa

Faf du Plessis won’t be wrong in thinking that there is some power on earth that conspires against South Africa at the World Cups. Their last game’s loss to New Zealand has virtually ended their run for a place in the semi-finals. Poor show while fielding, not calling for DRS on time and sloppy batting cost them the last match. The side doesn’t seem to have a plan or is failing to execute it despite having quality talent. The skipper would know that Pakistanis are also not in the best of form and he would press hard for a win which will heal some of the agony that the side has caused its fans in the tournament.

Quinton de Kock has been inconsistent in this tournament and Hashim Amla looks past his prime and this has troubled their batting. The duo would be looking to give a good start to the side. Faf du Plessis has done well so far but the likes of Aiden Markram and David Miller haven’t lived up to the expectations. Rassie van der Dussen, Chris Morris and Andile Phehlukwayo will have to do well in the final overs for the side to win this contest. They have bowled well with Kagiso Rabada, Imran Tahir and Lungi Ngidi having restricted the scoring rate of their opponents. But lack of support from others has dented hopes of the side. Morris and Phehlukwayo will have to check the flow of runs for the side to beat Pakistan.

Our Prediction for Pakistan vs South Africa

South Africa shall win this game

The World Cup campaign has gone haywire for both Pakistan and South Africa as the two sides meet each other at Lord’s in their upcoming game. After having played 6 games the South Africans have been able to manage only a single win and have three points while the Pakistanis also have the same points having played a game less. Pakistanis still have a remote chance of making it to the semi-finals and have to win the next game for that to happen. Having lost almost everything so far South African side would be looking to cheer their fans with a win and this will set up a perfect contest at the home of cricket.

Both the teams have failed to execute their plans so far. But South Africans have a slightly better bowling line-up and shall start as favourites in the next game.
