The disappointing finish to the 1st Test Match where Pakistan lost more than New Zealand won would have upset skipper Sarfraz Ahmed. But for a team which has always been termed as unpredictable it wasn’t a new thing. And they showed just the reverse of it in the 2nd Test Match where they combined patience with aggression to bat New Zealand out of the Test Match. The skipper would have been very happy with the way his side batted in the 1st innings where they virtually demoralized their opponents. With one game to go in the PAK vs NZ series they would like to carry the momentum and win it 2-1.
The side’s batting has been good throughout this series. Though Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Hafeez failed in the last game they are a good opening pair. Azhar Ali and Haris Sohail are in incredible form and will look to continue the same way. But it was Babar Azam who stole the show with his maiden Test hundred something Pakistani fans have waited for long to see. Mohammad Abbas had little to do on a turning wicket and it was Yasir Shah who entered his name on the record books with a 14 wicket haul. Hasan Ali did well in the second innings and with Bilal Asif and Hafeez in the attack they can easily dominate the Kiwi batsmen in the upcoming game.
The last thing that Kane Williamson would have wanted his men to do in the 2nd Test Match was to blow it away. And they did just that on a pitch that demanded some patience which they should have learnt from the Pakistanis. After having conceded 418 runs in the 1st innings they batted themselves out of the game losing 9 wickets for 29 runs in the 1st innings. The Pakistanis demoralized them in the 1st innings when they were in the field for almost six sessions. With their back to the wall and a motivated Pakistani side to play against it would be an uphill task for the Kiwis and they need to put up a handy performance to prevent a loss.
The batting was miserable in the last game with openers Jeet Raval and Tom Latham failing to give the start required. Latham’s second innings 50 would have given the team some confidence. Kane Williamson’s failure hurt the team but veteran Ross Taylor along with Henry Nicholls put up a spirited show in the 2nd innings. The lower order has to contribute against the Pakistani spinners. There was no bargain for Trent Boult while Colin de Grandhomme and Neil Wagner also looked ordinary in the game. But it was poor performance of Ajaz Patel and Ish Sodhi that let the side down. Patel who bowled the side to a win in the 1st Test Match along with Sodhi will have to capitalize on the conditions for the team to do well.
Our Prediction for Pakistan vs New Zealand 3rd Test Match
Pakistan would win the 3rd Test Match
This is just the kind of series that can silence the critics of Test cricket. The New Zealanders won thriller in the 1st Test Match and the Pakistanis came back strongly in the 2nd Test Match to level the series. Now all eyes move to Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi where we have a situation for the winner to take it all. Pakistanis look a better side on paper and would like to bank on their spin bowling strength. But the New Zealanders won’t like to give it away easily and with a good batting line-up they would surely put up a good fight. We should have a wonderful game on our hands in the series decider.
After their brilliant comeback in the 2nd Test Match and the way they defeated the New Zealanders Pakistanis find themselves in the driver’s seat and shall with the match and the series 2-1.
